I have worked extensively with depression, anxiety and anger issues, especially as triggered by life crises such as death, divorce, childbirth and also as related to trauma such as physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.
I have been a psychotherapist for several decades and have been trained in a variety of therapy approaches: client-centered, psychodynamic, humanistic, relational, feminist/gender, and mindfulness. I work with individual adults and adolescents. I believe in the connections between our youth and our current situations. I see the psychotherapeutic process as a client's journey in which I have been invited to participate. My view of the goal of psychotherapy is to assist a person in making changes to his/her perceptions, interpretations, reactions and/or behavior in order to enhance the quality of that person's life.

Acceptance, I think this is something that we strive for the most in life and it is also one of the hardest things we struggle with. It is hard for us to find ways to be true to ourselves and also feel like we are meeting the needs and demands of the world around us. I would very much like to help you find that balance. It is my goal to offer a place for you to examine yourself and what makes you, you and figure out the most helpful ways of expressing that person to the world around you. I believe a sense of humor is important and learning to laugh at things can be healing.

People often go into therapy feeling a great deal of shame, guilt and with secrets. It's important to me that the therapeutic environment I provide allow people to feel they are part of a non-judgmental, safe and warm environment. The goal of therapy is to help clients make behavioral changes and increase insight into the cause of those behaviors and the purpose they serve. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders, emotional/stress eating, body image, depression and anxiety. In addition, I run groups for individuals struggling with binge eating disorder.

Are you struggling with substance abuse? Or do you have a history of alcohol/drug abuse and are now dealing with difficult consequences? I have over 17 years of experience as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of CT. I have spent most of it focused on helping people navigate legal issues (probation, parole, court) and DCF, as well as relationship, employment, education, and self esteem obstacles that may stem from addiction. I recognize the stigma you may face and the barrier it can present in reaching your goals.

I understand that people seek therapy for a variety of reasons. You may want to address conflict in a relationship; you may no longer be able to manage or tolerate your symptoms; you may want to find meaning and fulfillment in your life; or you may want to gain a deeper understanding of yourself in the world. Whatever your goal, it helps to have a caring individual who will listen and guide you through this process.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
