In my psychotherapy practice with adolescents, men, women and families the focus is typically on issues such as behavioral concerns, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, ADHD and anger. I believe that everyone is entitled to be treated with respect and honesty and that therapy should start where the client is at. Additionally, each client has their own ways of gaining insight and implementing new patterns into their lives and will have their own pace at which they discover the strengths within themselves. I like to work with the client to discover what is most effective for them and go from there.

I believe you have the strength, wisdom, and capability to heal innately within you and that you deserve to live a life of happiness and meaning in alignment with your values and dreams. Veronica Maldonado is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Wasilla, Alaska, who offers non-traditional hours, works with individuals across the lifespan, with a focus on trauma and PTSD. Many of her clients struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their lives. Veronica is particularly sensitive to clients facing negative responses to traumatic life experiences, moments of transition, like combat, emergency responders chronic exposure, death, suicide, a move to the city, job loss, or breakup, when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge.

Greetings and thanks for checking out my services and what I have to offer. I have been providing mental health services to children and families in Alaska since 2010. Most of my experience has been with children, teens and young adults, but I have provided services to adults as well. My passion is working with individuals, of any age, who have experienced trauma. I am certified in a number of evidence-based practices for treating trauma. I am also experienced at treating mood disorders in all ages, as well as disruptive behavior disorders in children.

I welcome adult clients from all walks of life who are looking for a safe and supportive environment to address their mental health needs. My goal is to help you develop the tools and strategies you need to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or any other mental health concern, I am here to help you on your journey to healing and growth. I have advanced doctoral training in working cross culturally and with rural and indigenous populations. I am also a military veteran and have chosen to focus much of my career on people who have experienced trauma.

I have a comprehensive background treating a wide array of behavioral health symptoms and challenges. Common experiences I treat include anxiety, chronic stress, relationship issues related to attachment, guardedness, or trust, and complex trauma. I work to uncover and explore the root of issues to assist clients in permanently resolving or reducing symptoms with cognitive restructuring, developing adaptive behaviors, and teaching effective daily habits for overall healing and wellness. I am excited to bring strength-based, trauma-focused, and holistic therapy services to help restore hope and achieve a desirable quality of life.

Difficulties can make us think that something is wrong with us, when really all we need is compassion and understanding- ideally from ourselves. I enjoy working with self-growth, depression, anxiety, trauma, birth-related trauma, sexual assault, accidents, ancestral trauma, and racialized trauma. The work I do is guided by a deep belief in humanity and in our inherent goodness. My experience as a therapist has strengthen my belief in our innate capacity to heal.

I work with you in a client centered manner, often using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to identify a goal that fits your needs and help you achieve that goal. I generally work with adults and teens, individually, or as a family.

With life comes challenges; beautiful and heavy or dark. Every person has a story and it is valuable! I believe that while trauma can have a powerful impact, we are incredibly resilient. Every human deserves to experience healing, to live life fully, and thrive. I am holistic and humanistic; mind, body, soul, spirit are connected. I believe in the power of curiosity, energy, grace, connection, and humor. Therapy offers new learning, self-discovery, skill-building, growth, and healing. I believe in helping people and bringing awareness to people who struggle with mental health challenges. I am passionate about working with women, children, and teens. No one escapes life without experiencing trauma of some kind, and it often begins early. Trauma has the power to pervert our sense of self, our emotions, and our beliefs about the world around us. It can leave us feeling worthless, helpless, and full of shame. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients recognize and then reverse their cognitive distortions. I will always provide a safe, empathetic, and judgement-free environment for individuals seeking help. I will work with you to recognize negative coping mechanisms and replace them with healthy coping skills.
