I help people whose lives have been impacted by trauma find hope, healing, and transformation. The impact of trauma can be seen in nearly every aspect of the human experience, manifest in our mind, body, emotions, relationships, and our deepest sense of self. If you are struggling with emotional distress, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, feeling numb or disconnected from life, or hidden in the shadow of grief and loss, the truth is that you are not alone and healing is possible.
You have already taken the first step towards a better life! By being proactive and searching for someone who can help make the changes you desire, you have shown you are ready to make this a reality. Are you wondering how life got so hard and it feels like you can’t keep up? Maybe you are not happy with yourself or your partner. Have you lost your sense of self or feel unappreciated? Perhaps you want to learn how to better communicate and reduce conflict with your partner, your family or your friends? Old answers are not working anymore and you want to create new solutions.
I grew up on the waters of Southeast Alaska where my family fished commercially & recreationally. At times we would experience rough waters and together we found refuge and safety. We made it through storms and came out stronger and more prepared. Out of this metaphor for life, Refuge Cove Counseling, named after my favorite beach in Ketchikan, Alaska was born. My goal is to provide you with a place to find refuge, a safe shelter, where you can show up authentically and vulnerably. A place where you will find support, someone to hear your story and walk alongside you on your journey to pursue healing.
My vision is to “ensure my office is a safe place for clients to experience healing while sharing their stories.” I come with strong counseling experience including working with first responders, including law enforcement, and military service members and their families; seriously mentally ill adults and emotionally disturbed adolescents; and those challenged with addictions.

You don't really like to talk about your childhood or maybe you don't even remember a lot of it. You know parts were bad, the fights, addictions, mental illness, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, maybe even the death of a loved one. You try to put it behind you but you struggle in your marriage and yell at the kids. Holidays are hard, and sometimes you wonder if it's even worth living. You overcompensate or try to be invisible, because that's how you learned to survive. You suffer from a sense of not being worthy or enough, but it doesn't have to be like that. Life can be good. You ARE worthy and you ARE enough.
As a licensed clinical therapist with more than twenty years of experience, I am able to provide quality individualized care to my clients. I can help you and your family with the challenges you may be facing. My clients trust me to support and guide them with achieving the goals they set for themselves. As someone who understands the transformative power of therapy, I am passionate about learning, listening and bringing balance to the lives of my clients. Please feel free to bring your pet into your session!

I look forward to helping with issues that have been disturbing you and your loved ones. For some people it’s anxiety or depression affecting them in the here and now. Whatever the reason is, I am here for you. I work with you in a client centered manner to identify a goal that fits your needs and help you achieve that goal. I generally work with adults and teens, individually, or as a family.
