The focus of therapy is to create a sense of empowerment over one's thoughts, feelings, and actions. The idea is to work through irrational thought patterns and understand the physiological mechanisms of the brain that help create change. Also, to understand how our past and present are link together while governing a person's choices in life.

Life is hard. We all struggle sometimes, but you don't have to struggle alone. Maybe you have hard stuff from the past to deal with, or you're caught up thinking about the future. Maybe you're trying to manage with parenting and adulting, or maybe your relationships aren't what you wish they were. Wherever you are in life, whatever you're dealing with, I'll meet you where you are and walk along side you. Together we can find your path to a more hopeful future and uncover some joy along the way. That is what we all really want anyhow isn't it....to find our joy.

It can feel helpless fighting a battle with your own mind. Filled with uncertainty of how to stop a barrage of unhelpful thoughts and worry. The constant anxiety affects your job, friendships, family, and lifestyle. Sometimes putting one foot in front of the other feels like lifting 1000lb weights. From incessantly planning to avoid the next bad thing around the corner to the feelings of being so drained that things that once brought you life are no longer enjoyable. It hurts, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.

I practice TBRI methods with children that come from hard places, as well as play therapy to help with life's stressors such as anxiety, depression, anger, and ADHD.
It can be hard to ask for help, and because of that, I want to point out that you have already taken the first step in the process by beginning the search for a therapist that can help you with your goals! My primary focus is you and what goals you have for yourself and/or your family. Together we can help you identify the stressors in your life, identify the changes you want to make, come up with a plan or goals to help, and then work together to help you reach those goals.

My primary clients are individuals between 2 - 21 years (Adults on a case-by-case basis). I work with children and their families to provide more information about current presenting social, emotional, and/or behavioral concerns through a thorough assessment (i.e., 5+ hours of direct assessment) and/or through counseling. In counseling, I alone cannot change the person once per week or every other week; parents are key to successful treatment by implementing appropriate strategies, support, and structure needed for improvement (i.e., there is work for the adults too!). I can also help with navigating the school system. So, "How can I help?"

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
