I work affirmatively with those in the sex industry from a person-centered, non-judgmental, harm reduction, and minority stress-informed perspective.
Do you struggle to feel arousal or pleasure during sex? Have you lost the sexual spark and excitement in your relationship? Do you struggle with desires, thoughts, and behaviors that you feel as though you can’t share with others for fear of shame, stigma, ignorance, or violence? Have you struggled to understand yourself as a sexual being due to stigmatizing beliefs and messages? Navigating the nuances of relationships, sex, sexual health, sexual identity, and gender identity can be difficult and exhausting on its own. Through open-minded, compassionate, and culturally competent care, I am committed to help you meet your goals.

Every journey is unique. My person-centered, culturally conscious, approach to therapy aims to honor every individual’s personal path that leads them to today. My therapeutic method is based in Drama Therapy, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the therapeutic relationship. With Drama Therapy, we utilize story and embodiment to connect to our feelings, ourselves, and the world and relationships around us. I offer a holistic approach to therapy that leans into clients' strengths and creativity to set goals and enhance individual abilities and 'tool kits' to cope with struggles and explore new paths and potential solutions.

I am person-centered in my approach, but pull from a variety of modalities , including attachment theory, internal family systems (parts work), interpersonal neurobiology, EMDR, and other somatic interventions.
Our bodies hold deep wisdom, but for many, as the result of trauma, relationship wounds, and oppression, that connection gets interrupted. This means we learn to ignore our needs, wants, and feelings, and turn to strategies such as perfectionism, eating disorders, and dissociation to help manage. You might notice you have difficulty connecting to your feelings or feel overwhelmed by them, and while people might think you are “ok” on the outside, it feels much different on the inside. I believe that healing this disconnection can happen in the context of a safe, supportive relationship, like therapy.

Whether you're grappling with overwhelming emotions, seeking clarity in the midst of chaos, or simply longing for someone to share your burdens with, I'm here to offer support and guidance. Together, we'll unpack the layers of your story, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and co-create personalized strategies to help you move towards greater clarity, resilience, and well-being. While I draw from several theories in my work, I tailor each session to your needs. Mainly, I work from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and feminist/system based theory. I also incorporate somatics and mindfulness.

It all starts with listening and exploring your story, what brings you in to therapy. For many it has been a long journey, for others something may have happened just recently which needs to be addressed, it could be dealing with a problematic recurring pattern, or it may be tied to things that happened long ago in the past. I use a person-centered approach, wholly focusing on you the client in the moment, bringing my training and my own best self forward to help you overcome the suffering that brings you to the office. I provide a compassionate, centered space in which to experience learning, growing, and healing.

My approach is compassionate, warm, gentle, and person-centered with a sense of humor as well! I use an eclectic approach while incorporating tools from DBT, CBT, family systems, expressive arts, narrative therapy, and attachment theory to meet your individual goals for therapy.
Accepting in-person clients at Mindful Therapy Group's Fremont location on Tuesdays to Fridays. One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your story and how you came be the way you are today. Are you a creative person who feels stuck with the rigid expectations of school or work stressors? Together, we can identify your internal strengths and what motivates you to form a path to healing and anxiety relief.

I primarily utilize a person-centered approach which means we'll actively collaborate on what feels best for you.
Life can be challenging and stressful. Therapy is a place where you safely address and process through your internal responses to life’s obstacles. If you feel out of touch with your authentic self, problems can seem insurmountable. I work with individuals to explore and develop insight around your own thought patterns and responses to life events. We work together to overcome those things that are stopping you from having a full life and bring you into alignment with your authentic self.

I have an eclectic person-centered style that uses elements of attachment theory, narrative therapy, object relations, and psychodynamic theory.
You find yourself repeating the same cycles but can’t figure out how to break free. Your relationship is strained, or you struggle to pick the ‘right’ person. Perhaps, you’re in a time of transition and feel unanchored or dysregulated. Whatever the reason, you’re here because something needs to change. You’re ready to create a better, more fulfilling life for yourself.

I work with individuals and couples who are experiencing some stress or anxiety in their lives and have decided to attend therapy to address and resolve those issues. Clients will develop tools and strategies to navigate life and thrive in a more healthy way. Some clients prefer assignments between sessions, some prefer psycho-education, and others still prefer therapy focused on emotion. I work with clients to determine how they want to work in therapy, and in turn, clients feel agency over the change they create in their lives. I believe this change best occurs in a safe, trusting, vulnerable environment.

** Please Note: I am currently NOT accepting new clients** Are you frustrated and discouraged with the quality of your relationships with others? Do you wish that there were a manual or rule book that came with the people you love? Relationships are the most cherished and yet confounding things that we as humans long to have, and we get very little guidance about how to make and maintain them. Whether you are in a relationship with a friend, lover, spouse, or child, I can help you learn ways to find fulfillment, stability, and joy.

Let’s be real, having a body is complicated. Given the context of the world we live in, it makes sense to feel a wide range of emotions about your body, food, movement, and the list goes on. Eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, and low self-worth can so often feel like they come part and parcel with our society and the traumas so many of us endure throughout our lives. Thank goodness you don’t have to figure it all out alone! I believe that healing comes through gentle curiosity about ourselves and answering the question of “Why am I like this?” with nonjudgmental compassion.

Hi! I’m Dave McNew, a licensed clinical psychologist. I work to help those with marginalized identities (sexually & gender queer, BIPOC) to heal chronic struggles with trauma, anxiety, and depression. I use my passion for relational healing, mindfulness, and self-compassion to build space in which you can know yourself more fully and live more authentically. I help to cultivate more safety and joy in your relationships with others, and with yourself. I make space for you to face the parts of yourself that are hardest to feel. Where there was pain and confusion, I help you find greater calm, peace, and connection.

I approach my counseling with a belief that all children and young people have the potential to make positive change for themselves and for the world around them. I adapt my therapeutic approach to the client but often utilize strength-based counseling, positive talk therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to encourage personal growth while I coach and help guide the way. I believe counseling has the power to change the direction of your life, by developing techniques, skills, and perspective that builds confidence and creates social emotional growth that lasts a lifetime.
