By centering personal values and a self-compassion practice, I work to help my clients reconnect to their inner compass and move towards what they truly want. I approach therapy through a relational lens informed by attachment theory, though utilize other modalities like ACT, IFS, and DBT. I incorporate mindfulness to promote a nonjudgmental inquiry into the negative core beliefs that hold us back. All of that said, YOU are the expert on YOU, and I aim to be a witness to your process, providing nudges and maybe even some laughs along the way.

Once upon a time, I didn't know who I was, and that made me depressed, anxious and insecure. The problem was, I was also pretty functional. I could almost make it through this life - going to work, paying my bills, dining out. Thankfully, I lost my patience. If you're curious or confused or losing your patience, let's talk. I've earned my letters and have fancy theories, but I'm helpful because I've been there and then found a better way. (For the geeks out there, my way is ACT, Hakomi and Buddhadharma).

I love teaching my clients tools to practice self-acceptance and work towards self-love.
Do you feel stuck and overwhelmed? Or all alone in your pain? I love working with women who are ready to heal, grow, and discover their authentic self. Trauma, substance use, and difficult relationships can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. Through our work together, we will transform your suffering into meaning, change, and growth. You can shift your old ways of relating to others into new and healthy connections. I really believe that you can build the life you have longed for.

I bring genuine care, gentle humor, and deep acceptance to each client.
It takes a great deal of courage and humility to seek out a therapist. If your own life, your romantic relationship, or both are leaving you unsatisfied, stuck, or unhappy, I commend you for considering outside help. The support of people whom I trust and who care for me – including my own therapist – has been instrumental to my own healing and growth. I would be honored to provide you with that same partnership in your journey of change. When we combine my training in therapy with your knowledge of who you are and where you want to go, we can identify meaningful goals together and help you progress toward them.

I work with clients' natural ways of growing, and help them understand and improve how they think, feel, and act.
As a psychologist committed to strength-based approaches, I help clients see and utilize their existing knowledge and skills to create better lives. My work with clients both supports and challenges them, affirming who they are, what they believe, and how they think they can change. I take an approach that focuses much more on possibility than pathology, and as such I help clients find creative ways to approach problems and develop personal stories that fulfill them. I consider it an honor to do the work I do, and I strive to not only respect, but enhance, clients' dignity.

Some evidence-based theories I use are CBT, solution-focused, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
I believe each person can produce positive change in their life and that wellness can come from working through your goals and celebrating your unique path in life. Reaching out for help takes courage, and I provide a supportive place to share your story and work through your personal concerns and struggles, big and small.

I use therapies based on strong scientific evidence, like CBT and ACT.
I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and couples from all different backgrounds, across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and ability. I have particular empathy and compassion for any client who feels their path in life has not followed that of the majority or who have felt marginalized in some way. I also have extensive experience in working with adolescents and adults in the LGBTQ community in therapy. I believe therapy should be collaborative between myself and clients - I bring education and training to our therapy and you bring the most expertise on yourself.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
