I believe every person has a unique way of looking at the world, and sometimes we all need a little help finding a common language to connect with others. We all strive for something, and my goal as a counselor is to help my clients figure out what is working for them and replace what no longer serves them as they pursue their goals. My approach to counseling focuses on developing a strong therapeutic relationship based on authenticity, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and encouragement.

As a counselor, it is my goal to help clients experience their most fulfilled life. For many of us our situation or life experiences make that a bit challenging. I specialize in working with anxiety, trauma, military/veterans, and first responders and have worked with these individuals for over almost 20 years. I have participated in research studies and have spoken on related topics nationally. I am trained in evidence based practices for anxiety, trauma, and combat related trauma knowing that there is evidence that these modalities can work.

Welcome and kudos for taking the first step in seeking therapy by searching for a therapist. This may seem like a difficult step to take, and it can be, but the rewards for following through are so great. I know how helpful therapy can be and I want others who are willing to take this step to know too. I spent part of my career working with individuals as they moved through the criminal justice system and found being a therapist was a natural progression.

Hello potential client! I'm proud of you for taking the first step in your mental health journey! If you've been in therapy before, I'm glad you're still looking for the right therapist to fit your needs. As a mental health clinician, I'm passionate about destigmatizing the role mental health services play in our lives, especially for Black communities and people of color. I advocate for individuals and families to seek the best treatment based on their needs. In addition, I believe that as humans, it's necessary to heal from generational trauma so the next generation and ourselves can live the best life possible.

Indeed, we all have hurts that need attention and we do not always know how to do that. I believe we were created for relationships and at times those relationships or how we are going about them can be unhealthy. Due to that, we have adapted and learned coping mechanisms that have allowed us to function and move on. However, those coping mechanisms can stop working after a while and this is what creates an imbalance in our system that we need to make right or it can begin to generate stresses that spill over into other aspects of our lives.

I had the privilege of working in several settings that provided a wealth of knowledge and experience (i.e, rape crisis center, intensive outpatient clinic, behavioral health insurance). I enjoy helping others face their hardships and relationships to find joy on the other side of their dark moments. My ideal client is anyone above the age of 12 years old (individuals, couples and families) that is ready to work through their current struggle to find their sense of fulfillment and happiness.

I was once told, "Everyone has problems, but those who are successful in life are the ones who got help." I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor with a Masters degree from the University of North Texas. I truly enjoy helping others find personal success and healing. Prior to being in private practice, I spent four years as a counselor at Grapevine Valley Hope, a residential chemical dependency treatment center, helping adults begin to overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol. My personal style is down-to-earth, non-judgmental & accepting but also direct.

Labeling how you feel can be tough; you often find yourself stuck, confused, perhaps avoidant, or withdrawn. Warning Signs look different: perhaps you fake a smile, a laugh, a complete façade, experience isolation, or withdraw. It’s exhausting and finding a moment of silence from your thoughts or peace seems neverending. I believe together, we can work through it! I enjoy meeting with adults, teens, and families, homing in on your background to identify your current problems and goals.

I work from the perspective that a person’s self is wholly good; my care is affirmative of all people and I seek to encourage my clients to live as their most authentic selves. Life, the world, the patriarchy have a habit of convincing us that we, no matter how hard we try or how diligently we work, are not good enough. We are not enough. My job is to help you remember for yourself that YOU are exactly enough, and then advocate for that truth in all areas of your life.
