Mary earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University, where she received specialty training in Activity Therapy, Group Counseling, Family Therapy, and Child-Parent Relationship Training. Mary has additional training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens and Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy for Children.

Behavior Network, Inc. was founded on the principle of providing effective evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practices for individuals across the lifespan from children to adults. Our clients typically come to us with severe behaviors; they may have a diagnosis that includes Autism, Aspergers, Intellectual Disability or Mental Illness.

I work with a variety of clients with a variety of needs. The thing that most of them have in common is a feeling of being a bit stuck. Many of my clients are experiencing transitions in life, transitions into new work environments or life phases. Other clients are needing to​ make a transition & I can help them weigh their options & process their choices. I believe at my core that none of us were intended to do life alone. My clients’ goals are usually pretty simple, they want to be more present in their lives and move forward in a meaningful way.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 40 years of experience treating a wide range of difficulties in living a joyous life. I employ various treatment methods depending upon the needs of each client. I am gratified to observe the positive changes in depressed or anxious clients as they utilize new cognitive and behavioral skills to change or accept their situations. Dr. Abbassi is an expert in couple's communication and sexual issues. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist(LMFT), Certified Sex Therapist by American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and approved Supervisor of LPC and LMFT. He works with individual (children and Adults) in the area of depression, anxiety and general life difficulties. Dr. Abbassi has been in private practice for over 26 years. As a full Professor at local Institute of Higher Education, Dr. Abbassi teaches and provides supervision to Counseling Interns for both LPC & LMFT boards.

I specialize in men’s issues. I've always felt pushed to be a "lone-wolf" and culture told me to "be a man" or "get over it" when it came to my emotions. As men, when we have a problem we deal with it on our own, often by using pornography, drinking, playing video games, or searching elsewhere for affection. We lie, we defend, we run. We constantly look for peace and acceptance, even if it’s temporary or fake. It can feel hard to trust those closest to us and we may think, “No one cares about my needs but me” or "if they really knew me, they wouldn't love me."

My therapeutic philosophy involves utilizing a holistic approach incorporating Gestalt and Adlerian therapies. As a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in athletes, children, adolescents, and young adults, I frequently work with clients experiencing issues related to poor sport or school performance, life changes during adolescence, life transitioning from college to career, parenting issues, sibling relationships, and divorce family transitioning. Topical issues may include low self-esteem , ADHD, transitioning from athletic identity, peer relationships, anger management, self-mutilation, eating disorders, and self-empowerment. A fundamental element in my approach is establishing the therapeutic relationship through rapport and building trust between the client and the therapist.

Children often do not have the words to express what they are thinking or feeling. Traditional talk therapy alone is rarely successful in helping children process difficult life situations. I help children overcome anxiety, depression, and other challenges. I also assist parents in building strong, open relationships with their children. If your child is going through anxiety, sadness, behavior problems, social issues, or life changes (divorce, loss of a loved one, etc.) I am happy to walk along side them in their journey. In addition to working with children, I also see teens and adults who are struggling with any aspect of life.
