I will guide you through the application of DBT skills, EMDR, and cognitive processing.
Are you a person who finds yourself caring deeply for others while you struggle to care about yourself? Maybe you feel like an imposter and that there is no way that you can measure up to those around you. Do you avoid making decisions or taking risks because you know that you’ll fail anyway? You think even when something is a success that it is only a matter of time before it all falls apart. Do you want to feel that you are valued and have worth that allows you to establish the life that you imagine for yourself? Do you struggle to believe that it’s possible to feel good about yourself?

Bio video on my website...When you pay for therapy, you're expecting something of tangible value. All too often what you get instead is a nice person on a couch and little else. That’s not me. With high energy and humor, I help people recover from sexual addiction; I help couples lost in conflict and hopelessness; and I help parents with teens and young adults. I work with sexual abuse, attachment wounds, and traumas/PTSD of all kinds. I am a Christian, and I approach therapy from a clinical perspective. We can integrate your faith as much as you feel comfortable, or not at all.

Have you wondered, "Am I the only one struggling?" or, "Why can't I just be happy?" Maybe you've experienced loss, rejection, or betrayal. Maybe physical illness or emotional pain like loneliness, sadness, fear, and worry drag you down. Maybe devastating trauma or abuse refuses to stay in the past. Whether you've experienced more tragedy and hardship than most, or just think, "Most folks seem to be living their lives better than me," therapy has been proven to help.

Every client is different, some needing help to resolve deep rooted past issues, others needing help with navigating general day to day life issues. No matter the problem, what all clients have in common is the need for the additional layer of support and guidance.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
