I have over 30 years experience in doing therapy with children, teens, and adults. More than half this time has been spent helping children and teens, and their parents, deal with social/emotional difficulties of childhood and adolescence. Areas I have been focusing on include school performance, peer relationships, parent-child relationships, self esteem, anxiety issues, and depression. I also have considerable experience in working with family issues, including divorce, and in working with individual adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, self esteem, or relationship issues.

Where is my life going? How do I get back to being me after having a baby? How do I support my teenager or young adult child? Now that I am finished with college, what's next? These are questions that my clients often ask. In our work together we will make a plan towards finding your authentic self, achieve personal goals and build healthier boundaries and relationships. I am a social worker with 13 years of experience working with clients of all ages.

I have been a certified private practitioner since 1987. I believe in having a warm, friendly, and open approach to well-being. I have extensive experience with children, adolescents, adults, older adults, couples and families. One area of expertise is with special education and special needs children. I am certified as both a school social worker and a principal. Another area of expertise is with the caregivers of both older adults and children with disabilities. I am certified by Ross Greene, in his CPS approach. I currently have private practices in Arlington Heights and Evanston. I participate in several insurance panels.

I help people connect and grow in relationships. I help couples and families find their way through the difficulties of being in relationship when the uncertain, the unexpected, and the uninvited threaten to unravel the very fabric that would otherwise get them through it. Things like dealing with past trauma or family issues, coming out, getting married, having a child, addiction, a diagnosis, losing a job, or an affair put strain on a couple or family. In time, it can sap all energy and leave members struggling to meet the changing needs of their relationships. I meet you in the struggle and help you figure out how to reconnect.

It is understandable and valid to feel overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and upset as we navigate our lives. We do not have unlimited amounts of time, resources, or energy, and it is natural that life will bring challenges and experiences that cannot be addressed alone. I believe it is a sign of strength and self-love to know when to seek support, and I am committed to giving space and support to concerns throughout all ages and areas of life. I also strive to continually learn and grow in order to best support and accommodate your preferences, goals, and needs.

In my time as a therapist, I have observed the ways in which old patterns keep people stuck in challenging spaces. I believe that safe and vulnerable relationships are the vessel for healing and growth to happen. As a therapist, I strive to develop these relationships with clients and help them translate that into other relationships. Being a second generation Asian American myself, I’m especially passionate about working with immigrant communities, Asian Americans, and other people of color. Some of my specialities are family and relationship challenges, trauma, life transitions, depression, and anxiety.

It is my goal to provide a safe and collaborative space where you can fully express your thoughts, feelings, doubts, and desires. I deeply respect all people and their unique identities and experiences. I listen carefully to make sure I fully understand and then work in partnership and support to develop goals and plans. It is my hope that everyone I meet with feels accepted and comfortable throughout our journey together.

Sometimes it can be hard to talk about our hopes, dreams, concerns and issues. We need a safe space to slowly open up and feel seen. Through the use of expressive arts therapy, we can work together until we feel comfortable expressing things verbally, or not. Through my experiences as a therapist, I have learned other ways of expressing our grief and trauma without having to talk about it. Maybe you have only been in talk therapy before and can't imagine another way of doing things. But there are other options

My specialty is couple and family counseling, and of course, I also see individuals ages 12 and up. I have significant experience working with children and families who are involved with DCFS. I have helped families deal with issues such as divorce/re-marriage, and child abuse. I also enjoy working with parents who are re-thinking their parenting style and want to work towards a more satisfying relationship with their child(ren).
