I work with people who have symptoms, such as depression and anxiety, and with people who feel as though they are not moving forward in life in the ways they had hoped. They may feel frustrated that they are not finding satisfying relationships or the gratifying career that they had always thought they would.

Our brains and bodies are constantly adapting in life – these adaptations can feel overwhelming. I will greet you with compassion and curiosity so we can process and explore what you walk into my office with. My work is centered around adults, ages 18 and up, coming in with a variety of concerns. I use neuroscience-informed, relational, person-centered, and trauma-focused approaches.

Immediate availability. My approach to therapy is warm and interactive. You’ll find me using humor a lot; just because therapy is hard work doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! I enjoy getting to know people on a deep level and helping uncover unconscious patterns holding them back. I'm all about getting to the root of a problem, and I will always be honest and direct with you. I offer a holistic approach to therapy and help people gain insight on the developmental experiences that shaped their current belief systems. To me, the biggest compliment is when clients enjoy coming to therapy and feel empowered to heal.

You’re wondering how or if you’re ever going to make it as an adult. You feel like you’re failing because you are so scared, sad, unmotivated, unfocused, and isolated. A part of you wants to figure things out and a part of you wants to escape everything. You might be asking yourself, will I ever: find lasting love or friendship, achieve enough in school, land a job that makes me happy, start a family, be a good enough parent, and figure out how to balance it all? I help Millennials and Gen Zs to overcome self-doubt, uncertainty, and helplessness to build the life they want.

You are considering divorce and fear how it will affect your children. Or you're divorced and met someone and want to blend your families, but are worried about the difficulties that blending brings. These family transitions are full of significant challenges such as grief over the breakup of the family, confusion over stepparent roles and responsibilities, hostile co-parenting relationships, jealousy of ex-spouses or stepchildren, and more. You want happy and healthy relationships with partners, exes, children, and stepchildren. You hope for a sense of "we-ness" as a new family unit and crave peace and balance in the future.

As a therapist, I am committed to being a source of unconditional positive regard, asking hard and important questions, offering observations to identify connections in experiences, exploring and challenging negative self-beliefs, offering tools and skills in the capacity desired, and celebrating the ups and the downs of the process. I believe human growth, change, and healing is most easily found when we allow ourselves the chance to be uncomfortable. I am a Certified Accelerated Resolution Therapy Practitioner and have found it to be an incredible tool for increasing healing with life’s big and small difficulties.

Immediate openings available. I am a psychoanalytically trained therapist who specializes in anxiety, depression, trauma, and eating disorders. My work is highly relational and my first focus will be on creating an authentic relationship with you. Therapy is a space to learn what connection feels like when you are welcome and encouraged to be your wholest self, to share your fullest range of emotions, and to set aside the defenses or walls that have kept you disconnected in the past. My focus in therapy is not just on alleviating symptoms, but on creating deeper understanding of their root causes.

Hello! I am open-minded, curious, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I believe in community and reaching out to others for support. Having raised three young adults, I am drawn to conversations about life transition, identity and career exploration, relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, and mental health issues affecting young adults and adults of all ages. I seek to listen to and support adults in their process of healing and self-exploration. As a cis-gendered, white woman who has lived in many different communities around the US, I continue to strive to learn about others’ culture and experiences with humility and curiosity.

Not accepting new clients
I work with a variety of concerns related to finding one's way through life. Effective therapeutic relationships are where mutually agreed upon goals are worked toward. Research suggests that utilizing treatment approaches that are consistent with personal beliefs is effective. Thus, I gather information about what you think you need and determine whether I can offer appropriate care. If necessary, I will provide a referral to a more appropriate provider or to supplementary care. I see clients on Tuesdays and am a full time faculty member at the U. of St. Thomas.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
