“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful” – Sigmund Freud. Many have found these words from Freud to be true, and I think the beauty is found in working through the struggle and getting the skills and clarity you need to discover your answers. The process of therapy is a collaborative one. My goal is not to give you answers or solutions to your questions but assist you in discovering those answers yourself. This is your journey and you are the author of your life story! Whether the problems are concerning you or your child or your family, I look forward to being a part of your journey.

Carrying the burdens of racial trauma, depression, and anxiety can feel like an uphill battle. If this is true for you, then therapy can help you to lighten that load. I have a passion for working with people who want to live their best lives. Sometimes, taking the step to begin counseling can feel scary, but I truly enjoy coming alongside those who may feel a little apprehensive and helping them feel supported in this journey. Many of the people I have worked with have dealt with things like depression and anxiety, relationship struggles, and life transitions like going to college or deciding a career path.

I believe the therapy process is a marathon, not a sprint. Pacing and patience are key to the type of collaborative therapy I offer. In this “marathon”, I am open to discussing what tactics you want to use to create the change you want to see. As a counselor, I use myself as a vehicle for change in the therapeutic process. I bring a warm, personable, and laid-back nature to each session because I believe everyone needs a comfortable space to share their story. I push my clients in the direction of their goals, but I respect the importance of pacing and patience during the therapy “marathon”.

Many of us have been trained to quiet our voice, quiet our body, stuff negativity away or worse bury it. Living in the world we do with impossible expectations placed on us, this cycle is perpetrated by encouraging us to distract ourselves or check out pretending this pain inside of us does not exist. But "the body keeps score", and it will find a way to remind us that this is not acceptable. This is especially difficult if you noticed your relationships are taking a hit or seem to be stagnant. We must end this cycle and create a new cycle of healing. My goal is to be that space where you can be you with all the quirks included.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
