I believe that exposure response prevention (ERP) is the gold standard treatment for OCD and anxiety disorders.
Are you struggling with obsessions, compulsions, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, body image issues, or trauma? Do you experience excessive guilt? Do you struggle with thoughts that are difficult to discuss or are taboo? Do you struggle to stick up for yourself or set boundaries with others? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we may be a great therapist-client match. I am passionate about working with OCD, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders and have experience and training in these areas.

Are you someone with high functioning anxiety or depression? OCD or ADD/ADHD? Maybe that pesky inner critic won't be quiet, or you hyperfocus on mistakes. Trouble setting boundaries or saying no, asking for help? Do you get easily overwhelmed by others' emotions or your environment? Maybe people say you are too sensitive. You can learn to recognize and label these patterns with time, practice, and kindness to yourself.

I have extensive experience in treating anxiety, OCD, and trauma through evidence-based techniques.
I believe in the power of vulnerability and sharing with an unbiased party, which is where therapy starts. I also believe in the power of feeling seen and heard. If you're troubled, I'll provide you with a space for unconditional support. If you're too comfortable, I'll create a space for gentle challenging. What I can’t promise is a quick fix. Biologically I believe we are not hard wired for change, and healing takes time. My insight-oriented and solution-focused approaches help with a range of core issues.

I provide a safe environment for individuals and couples so that a collaborative relationship develops, and change can occur.

I believe that it is essential for clients to find the right fit for their therapist. I want the client to know that my office is a safe space and I will do everything I can to help them navigate through the tough times in their life. Coming from a Greek background influences my desire to maintain cultural competence and tailor therapy to best support one’s beliefs and values. I will work as my client's advocate, ensuring that they feel valued and heard. I strive to create a relationship built on trust, communication, growth, and respect.

The capacity to feel vulnerable is shared by all human beings. Vulnerability is often equated with weakness and because of such a mindset many of us spend our lives shielding ourselves from leaning into any one emotion too intently. From that fear and discomfort we begin to invalidate many aspects of the human condition. My goal with the individuals I work with is to help them embrace the opportunity to view vulnerability as an opportunity to build resiliency. I have a very organic process to developing a therapeutic relationship and if nothing else I would like individuals to walk away feeling seen and heard.

I work as a team with my clients to help them recognize their potential and realistically help them make changes in their life. I start where the client is but look at their family history to get an idea of their foundation. My clients often are depressed and/or anxious so I come up with a treatment plan that meets their abilities. I treat teenagers and adults, individuals, couples and families. I have a background in domestic violence and often help victims in emotional and physical abuse cases. I also help people learn anger management techniques to control their tempers.

There are times in life when it is difficult to believe that we will ever reach our dreams, hopes, goals, or have the future for which we had hoped. We may be feeling stuck, lonely, and unable to develop or access our wisdom and strengths. Too often, challenging life situations or decisions made in the past tend to have a lasting effect on our lives. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, change and heal our relationships with ourselves, our significant others, and those around us.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
