I practice from a strengths-based approach and utilize a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
You never learned how to set healthy boundaries, which has led to people-pleasing behavior, low self-esteem and difficulty having your needs met in relationships. Maybe you've coped with painful feelings with food, drugs or bad relationships. You deserve to be valued for who you are and not what you do for others. The opportunity to show up in your life as your true self can feel both exciting and terrifying. I offer a warm, safe environment to process painful feelings that may arise during this process. Together we can learn new ways to cope that will help you build a life that feels true to you.

I work with those struggling with confidence/self-esteem/self-compassion, those interested in working on emotion identification and regulation, and those struggling with inattentiveness/focus difficulties. I help those who want to build up their coping skills toolkit. I am interested in working with those striving to identify and live aligned with their values and eager to engage in therapy. I am comfortable with people who might be the first generation willing to engage and trust the therapeutic relationship. I want to work with someone who wants to find balance and acceptance in a life of suffering and joy.

I use an integrated approach that draws from several different methodologies, including ACT, CBT, mindfulness and trauma focused.
The decision to begin therapy and the process of finding a therapist can be challenging, but ultimately extremely rewarding. I am an experienced therapist who understands that the most powerful things in life are often the simplest: to listen attentively, whole-heartedly, and with openness and compassion. I am committed to creating a safe, comforting space where you feel free to be yourself.

I use an eclectic approach informed by attachment theory, ACT, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy.
Sometimes it feels like we are not making progress toward our life objectives, or sometimes like the coping skills that once worked are no longer working. Maybe you are experiencing challenges with self-esteem which are getting in the way of positive change. Maybe you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting to a transition in your life. I will provide a safe, affirming place, free of judgment or criticism, where together we can help you connect with your thoughts, feelings, and behavior in relation to yourself and others.

By prioritizing both, it has been my privilege to see so many clients achieve their goals of decreased anxiety, improved mood, increased self esteem, reduced stress, decreased irritability, feelings of body acceptance, and emotional stability.
I specialize in female anxiety and managing the stress associated with the challenges that women often face. In my work with clients, we identify the root causes of their anxiety, increase their ability to tolerate distress, and regulate their nervous system. I help clients understand the impact of the mental load and emotional labor on their feelings of overwhelm. We identify traits that have served as protection in childhood that may start to work against the client's goals as an adult. I also treat body image issues using the Intuitive Eating and HAES framework.

If you are looking for guidance with anxiety, fears, depression, or stress, it takes courage to ask for help. Admitting you can’t do everything on your own, is the first step toward achieving wellness in a fast paced, demanding world. The good news is, asking for help gets easier with a little practice. The way in which we cope in the world is greatly influenced by how we see the world. Asking for help, and obtaining a fresh perspective is often the first and most profound step toward developing the mental muscle needed to become stronger. The more support you gain, the better equipped you will be to take on bigger challenges!

• • Accepting New Clients! • • Hi! I'm Neena - I’m so thankful you are thinking of including me in your therapeutic journey! I work mostly with adolescents + adults experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, and/or racial trauma. Growing up as a first generation American, I have often found myself existing in spaces that did not provide me with a real sense of belonging. I believe that healing and growth in therapy occurs within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, so I am committed to creating a space where you feel like you truly belong: without judgment, without fear, and without expectations.

We have all struggled with something in our lives. With the stresses and demands of everyday life, therapy offers an opportunity to explore these challenges. I strive to create a non-judgmental, safe and supportive atmosphere to explore problematic feelings and thoughts. I approach each client with respect, integrity and individuality. I'm a psychodynamically trained therapist, helping you explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences to gain insight into present day challenges you may be facing. Throughout our work we will recognize and explore ongoing patterns that may be hindering your life in some way.

Congratulations on taking steps toward establishing a more fulfilling, healthy, and successful life! In therapy, I work collaboratively with you to enhance your understanding of the internal and environmental factors that impact life, emerge as relational patterns, and potentially impede success. I offer a safe, comfortable space for the exploration of your concerns, ensuring you feel heard, respected, and understood. I enjoy working with diverse clients: of varying backgrounds and therapeutic needs. Though trained as a generalist, I sought additional education, practica, and research opportunities to develop the specialties of 1) counseling traditionally marginalized populations, 2) program development and evaluation, and 3) consultation and outreach.

Things are unbelievably stressful right now, aren’t they? It might be getting harder to convince yourself that everything’s okay. You might feel less in control of your emotions than you usually do. There is help and support to get you through. As difficult and out of the ordinary as things are right now, it is still the time to work on the anxiety that weighs you down. It is still the time to heal from the trauma(s) you’ve experienced. Whatever difficulty you’ve been thinking you’d like to work on, therapy can still help. And it can help you get through the current situation.

Are you feeling invisible? Angry about a breakup? Have you recently experienced a loss/death? Do you feel misunderstood? Are you experiencing more pain, burnout, and/or fatigue than normal? Does your adolescent need extra support? Is your family/relationship falling apart? If your answer to any of these questions is "Yes," or even if you have questions of your own, it may be time to reach out and talk through those thoughts and feelings. I would be delighted to be the person you reach out to.

As a queer therapist, I understand how important it is to have a safe and affirming space to explore your deepest self. Within my clinical focus, my specialties include depression, anxiety, relationships, gender expression, identity, and body image. Additionally, I feel passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ individuals who are on the path to parenthood. This includes those who may be carrying a child, thinking about conceiving, as well as non-birthing partners. Taking that step can feel daunting in a world that is still entrenched in binary norms, and I am here to honor and hold your space.

I find that many people have dealt with so much trauma and disappointment in life that they begin to feel powerless. The way out isn’t necessarily to fix all the problems in your life, but to learn how to respond differently to them, as your capable self. You might wonder what your life purpose really is, or feel as if you’re stuck in the same cycle. Many of my clients have described feeling overwhelmed by the never-ending pressures of life. Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to see a new path. I help people get out of unhelpful patterns, so they can pursue their true purpose, no matter what’s happening around them.

Are you a caregiver experiencing fatigue? Guilt may crop up when you just want more time for yourself or burnout starts to cause emotional exhaustion. Whether you are caring for a family member, parent, or caring for multiple people at once. During this exhaustion, you might feel like you are becoming removed from your loved one and just going through the motions. Some days it’s an effort to do the simplest tasks, and even a full night of sleep won’t take care of how you feel. Are you ready to let joy into your life again? In therapy we will help make sense of your emotions while lessen fear, guilt, and anxiety.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
