I work with those struggling with confidence/self-esteem/self-compassion, those interested in working on emotion identification and regulation, and those struggling with inattentiveness/focus difficulties. I help those who want to build up their coping skills toolkit. I am interested in working with those striving to identify and live aligned with their values and eager to engage in therapy. I am comfortable with people who might be the first generation willing to engage and trust the therapeutic relationship. I want to work with someone who wants to find balance and acceptance in a life of suffering and joy.

I utilize a collaborative approach with my clients and use principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a trauma-informed approach.
As you encounter life and its many hurdles, you can be presented with challenging situations, transitions in life, and unforeseen circumstances. If you are struggling with the weight of anxiety, depression, burnout, or traumatic memories, it can be helpful to have the space and a person at your side to walk with you in navigating these challenges. Some of my specific clinical interests include processing and healing from religious-based trauma and coming out as LGBTQIA. I am licensed in both Maryland and the District of Columbia.

By zooming out, we can figure out how early childhood and past relationship experiences have shaped the way you think, feel and act today.
Although most people will experience anxiety, depression, trauma, self esteem and relationship issues at some point in their life, some issues affect women differently and thus they need a different approach. Women deal with many unique issues like carrying the emotional burden in relationships, having different standards of physical beauty, being discriminated against at work, struggling with fertility issues, and experiencing interesectional racism. Women are often told to "deal with it" or that they are being too emotional, but I am here to tell you that your feelings are completely valid!

My therapeutic compass points towards ACT and DBT.
Welcome to a therapeutic space where the focus is not on what's "wrong" with you, but rather on celebrating your journey towards emotional health & wellness. I am a dedicated and compassionate therapist committed to fostering acceptance, self-discovery, and emotional well-being. In my practice, I believe in embracing the concept of mental health as an integral part of our overall wellness. Just as we prioritize our physical health through primary care services, I advocate for the recognition and celebration of strategies that promote emotional health. It's about exploring the depths of self-discovery, resiliency and healing.

I draw on interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Relational Cultural Theory, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in order to find a plan that works for your therapeutic goals and particular background.
Finding a therapist who fits for you is challenging; you are not just seeking a service, you are starting a relationship. This can seem like a frightening proposition; but it is also an opportunity! Rarely in life do you enter a relationship with the expectation that you will need to be vulnerable or that you will be able to explore the dynamics of how you interact with the other person directly and frankly. Clients who are interested in exploring these dynamics or in learning strategies to cope with the challenges of day-to-day life are the ones who benefit most from my therapeutic approach.

The first steps to a counseling session can be scary, but it is also a courageous act in understanding yourself and living a more engaging life. My philosophy in providing care has always been "helping others help themselves." I believe that each individual has the ability to change and grow in their journey. In sessions I provide a safe, compassionate, and collaborative space. I will also acknowledge that our world is vastly different and more chaotic than it was a few years ago - covid pandemic, racial injustice, climate change - and I will do my best to offer you some direction in these collective struggles.

I help clients accept their whole, authentic self and address trauma through the use of acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness.
Maybe you sense you're going through the motions, not truly engaging with all that life has to offer. You crave a sense of purpose and clarity surrounding who you are and what you want your life to mean. Or maybe, you feel confident in your values, but you're struggling to take action. Perhaps you've endured difficult experiences that contribute to dysregulation and the tendency to freeze or flee. On the other side of this suffering, healing is possible.

I’m passionate about meeting people where they are by providing crisis management, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
Life can be challenging at times, and sometimes you feel there’s no end in sight. Trust me; I get it. For some, seeking support seems like climbing Mount Everett; however, I’m ready to take that walk with you. We can change the current stories that narrate your life by walking together. Everything you need to “be the first you” while changing the narrative is within you. In working together, you’re never alone on this journey. The answers you seek are within you, and you discover them with guidance and within a safe space.

Life moves fast and requires a lot from you. Society expects you to handle the stress, so you push forward despite the weight. In the silent moments, you deal with the conflict within. I welcome you to sit with me and work it out together. My elder taught me you can either progress fast or deep in your life journey, but not both. My intention is to create a safe space to explore your world while learning and practicing practical solutions along the way. I intend to focus on your strengths and build your confidence. During counseling, our work will be goal-directed, cathartic, and spiritually attuned. I hope to speak with you soon.

As a practicing therapist and former client, I understand how difficult it can be to move forward when you feel stuck or struggling against what seems impossible to recover from or manage. I firmly believe that each of us has the ability to meet and even surpass our expectations of what is possible for us to overcome, regardless of how dire the circumstances may seem. You are the expert on your own life and my role is to help you become a more confident expert. As a result, I work best with clients who are prepared to be active and committed to therapy in order to be more successful in their everyday lives.

No one wakes up and says, bless me with a mental illness and negative thoughts. I know, having either or can make you feel isolated, embarrassed, and alone. Having a mental illness and/or negative thoughts are not uncommon, but can be scary if you are trying to deal with it by yourself.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
