I grew up being told I was too sensitive, that I should learn to “toughen up” to make my life easier, and others more comfortable. If this sounds familiar to you, you’re not alone. Maybe you grew up in a home where you felt misunderstood or unseen. Maybe you feel easily overwhelmed, or that you have deeper emotions than those around you. Maybe you struggle with feelings of inadequacy, or you just feel a bit out of place. Being a sensitive and intuitive person in our current world can feel at times impossible, but I have found that our deep sensitivity is often a guidepost to our greatest gifts.

Have you been searching for inner peace but something is always getting in the way? You know you need help but when you think about the last time you tried therapy you were left disappointed. If you are thinking, “There has got to be a better way to heal than going back to that one time in third grade over, and over”, I get it. I've been disappointed in therapy too until I found (and learned) the right healing methods. I am not that therapist that keeps you trapped in the past. I use powerful and evidence based tools that rewire your subconscious mind quickly and for good. It is possible to meet your goals and feel better.

In life we are never fully prepared for the challenges that we face as an adult, yet we do our best to push through these hurdles, collecting life lessons along the way. An unexpected turn of events can either make you or break you, but at the end we rise to the occasion; we seek resources for support that aid us in becoming stronger. You have taken the first step, which is the biggest step, in having the courage to seek therapy, that shows your resiliency.

I have dedicated many years to working with people experiencing cancer, caregiver stress, end-of-life issues, and bereavement. I have a particular interest in supporting people whose mental health and quality of life have been affected by their physical health. People strive to create a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives, despite the very real challenges to their well-being. We all deserve a chance to do this. In therapy, I aim to show the same authenticity, compassion, respect for differences and diversity, and sense of humor (when appropriate) that I express in my everyday life.

Everyone made it seem so simple. Do A, then B. Add them together, and you get C. That’s precisely what you did. On the outside, your life seems fine. Yet, you feel lost, confused, and disconnected. You can’t shake the feeling that you’re a fraud or that there must be something more to life than this. You’re eating, drinking, and smoking to distract yourself from the crushing weight of your anxiety or loneliness.

Life is a maze with many twists and turns. Your choices and actions will determine the next steps in life depending on which path you decide to take. In order to find a deeper meaning to understand who you are, what you want or how to build healthy relationships, it is important to have a therapist that is empathetic and understanding. A therapist who will meet you at your starting point and guide you towards fulfilling your journey. We can be our biggest critic but understanding your core values, needs, wants, and goals will help bring out the best version of YOU!

Sometimes the most potent healing requires stepping outside the limitations of words and thoughts. Your body has its own language — a direct line of communication to your soul’s truth. Translating the body’s wisdom requires a slowing down — a different kind of listening. Experiential healing practices can reconnect you with a greater healing potential. My approach is based in soul-centered somatic practices, harnessing the power of breathwork, tarot, body-tracking, and intuition.

How can I find a therapist in 11102?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
