Challenges with attention, memory, executive function, and communication can disrupt work, school, and home life. Stress, poor sleep, anxiety, health conditions, trauma, and mood difficulties often make things worse. Concern for disorders such as ADHD, autism, dementia, or other cognitive conditions typically calls for a formal neuropsychological evaluation to identify strengths and weaknesses, provide diagnostic clarity, and determine next steps. This can empower you to secure academic and work accommodations, implement appropriate strategies, and access needed resources.

Anxious? Overwhelmed? Perhaps you’ve spent years keeping everything together at home, work, and in your personal life. Constantly trying to meet the impossible expectation of having/doing it all, you often prioritize others’ wants and needs and neglect your own. From the outside, it looks like you have it all figured out. But inside, there’s a constant pressure to get it right, a critical voice that never stops pointing out your faults and mistakes, and a deep fear that, despite your best efforts, you are falling short.

I enjoy supporting individuals with both personal struggles as well as relationship challenges. Looking at and figuring out life paths and next steps inclusive of home, family, employment and friendships are especially rewarding. One of my favorite saying is "life is not a set of railroad tracks; you can change direction, adjust, bend, or loop around anytime. You are never stuck on the tracks you are on." I work with a variety of Mental Health diagnosis and utilize multiple treatment modalities. I am very comfortable treating anxiety, depression, eating disorders and mood disorders.

I enjoy working with children and adolescents who are seeking to improve their mental health and overall functioning. I am particularly passionate about working with youth navigating challenges related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, social anxiety, and panic disorder. A key component of my approach involves strong collaboration with parents and caregivers. I believe that a supportive and involved family system plays a crucial role in a child’s therapeutic progress and long-term success.

Making the choice to seek out therapy can be a tough decision and transition, but it doesn't necessarily need to be hard. I invite you into a therapeutic space of safety, comfort, non-judgement, and exploration. Establishing a positive therapeutic relationship is the key to promoting healing. Therapy is a space where you should feel seen, understood, and heard. I emphasize that traditional talk therapy isn't right for everyone and incorporate different styles of therapy into each session. I would be thrilled to work with you!

Maturity, empathy and well developed listening skills are assets which I offer. I've been especially interested in helping women during pregnancy, and the postpartum period and resolving grief and loss from miscarriages. In addition, addressing issues of depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress in men or women is especially gratifying to me. I often begin by teaching techniques for stress reduction, or in the case of lethargic depression, ways to energize the body, which help people function better quickly. Most important to me is helping people find hidden strengths and restore inner balance.

Are you exhausted by perfectionism that worked for years and now feels like it's running your life? You used to keep everything moving (career, relationships, the version of yourself you'd worked hard to build) and now the strategies that got you here aren't built for who you've become or the life you're in. Together we work on reconnecting with what actually matters to you, untangling perfectionism from values, and making decisions in your career and life from a place that feels like you again.

Taking a first step toward therapy can be difficult. Many people spend weeks, months, or even years deciding whether to reach out. Confiding in a stranger can be hard, and finding the right fit often takes time. Most of us want a therapist who is experienced and knowledgeable, but also genuine, approachable, and easy to talk with. When couples counseling, family therapy, or child/adolescent support is needed, flexibility and fit become essential. These situations require someone who can build trust with multiple family members, navigate different perspectives, and create a space where everyone feels heard and understood.

With over 35 years of experience in the field of helping others, I have learned that making a genuine connection with people is the best way in which to begin the work of therapy. One of the most important skills I have to offer is to carefully and compassionately listen to what you have to say. We then go from there; when you are ready, we begin to look at how to change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
