In my work as a therapist, my first priority is to establish a comfortable, respectful working relationship that will allow my clients to begin to focus on the often difficult, painful and complex feelings, issues and situations that have brought them to counseling. My role is to listen carefully and thoughtfully, and to help guide and facilitate discussions that will help my clients to grow and change in beneficial ways, to resolve important conflicts and issues, and to reduce the severity of symptoms such as anxiety, depressed mood and difficulty managing anger.

I enjoy working with others struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, confidence, spirituality, relationship issues, and self-worth. I often work with those learning how to honor their intuition and develop their true and higher selves. I also enjoy working with clients who are open to alternative therapies. I am a heart-centered and strengths-based therapist who meets clients where they are in life and strives to provide a nurturing environment to allow my clients to grow into the best versions of themselves.

Do you think you may have ADHD or Autism? Have you struggled to assert boundaries at work, with family, & partners? Have you felt curious about exploring different pronouns and gender identities? Do you feel bad that you have a disability and don't know how to tell your friends that you can't do certain activities? You may have goals to say your preferred pronouns to your friends. Goals to get a diagnosis for your disability & curious about medication, goals to reevaluate your relationship with cannabis/alcohol. You may feel shame & anger about your childhood & the way your parents handled your behavior.

There are times that we need to connect with someone outside of our typical realm. We need to feel heard and to be regarded differently that what our community affords us. Most who come through my door are seeking a place to be themselves, as flawed and misunderstood as they may feel. Outsiders find themselves worthy and cared for here. I will encourage you to grow to trust yourself and the decisions that you are about to make. My experience in working with people is focused on empowerment. I want to help you create a sense of certainty in your risk-taking and progress.

My ideal client would be someone who has not had much success with counseling in the past but is very motivated to participate. I would love to work with a client who has struggled with depression, anxiety, some substance use, and has a history of trauma. I would work to help this client recognize how these issues are connected and perpetuate a cycle. I would also want to help them interrupt that cycle and set boundaries with themselves and in interpersonal relationships. I would work with this client to find healthy hobbies and coping skills while also challenging them.

My ideal client is a young female in their 20s. She may be struggling with relational concerns, such as intimate, social, or familial issues. She might also be struggling to navigate her career after graduating from college. She is trying to figure out who she wants to be in this crazy world. She is most likely struggling with some mild depression and anxiety. She has achievable goals, but she needs to know how to achieve them. She wants to feel more fulfilled and happier in her everyday life. She wants to be her best self!

Most people who seek therapy do so because they are in some form of pain. The process of therapy itself can be challenging and uncomfortable, but the benefits often outweigh the risks. I enjoy engaging with adult patients who want help and are willing to do the work it entails to feel better.

This client should want guidance and support to develop emotional regulation skills, build positive relationships with others, or process their emotional experiences. I can help support those going through various life transitions and help people develop self-awareness and understanding.

My ideal client wants to live by their values and aspirations, but they feel stuck. They don't know how to get where they want to go. They might be having some negative thoughts about themselves. They may feel on edge, jump to the worst possible conclusions, or think people are judging them. They often want to be able to do many things that they've been avoiding. Accomplishing these things is important to them because it helps them feel in control of their lives.

For me, there is no one "ideal client" because therapy is about addressing diverse challenges and finding unique solutions. My ideal client's issues might include anxiety, depression, self-esteem struggles, relationship difficulties, substance use, life transitions, and a broad range of emotional disorders. Clients' needs may include but are not limited to, problem identification, developing coping strategies, psychoeducation, and awareness of one's thoughts and emotions. My client's goals would center on continuing or returning to normal function with safety as the priority, given that "normal" can and will look different

They understand that therapy is a journey of growth, not perfection, and they are patient with the process. I value clients who maintain open communication, feel comfortable sharing their struggles, and know that they will be met with understanding and without judgment.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
