I am Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and have been practicing since 2005. I completed my residency from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and my Fellowship in Addictions from the Robert Johnson Wood Foundation. I have experience working with adults as well as adolescents suffering from both psychiatric diagnosis and substance use disorders and have extensive experience working in both out-patient and in-patient settings.

I’m an Psychiatrist with over 40 years experience in the Mental Health and Behavioral Health industry. I am Board Certified ABPN since 1985. I’m experience to diagnose and prescribe medication for patients with mental health issues. I have been working for Ascend Behavioral Health Services in Psychiatry since July of 2020. We specialize in Addiction/Substance Abuse, Medication Management to treat psychiatric issues like ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Psychosis, etc. We treat Children, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry and Therapy.

People come to treatment for all sorts of reasons — ADHD, anxiety, depression, difficulty functioning at work or school, family conflict, challenges in relationships, low self-esteem, or simply a desire to learn more about themselves. As a psychiatrist with expertise in both medication management and psychotherapy, I can help patients develop a treatment plan that meets their needs. My true passion was always psychiatry and medical school was always just a means to an end for me. After returning to the United States, I spent some time with my family in Tampa, FL and put myself through the tedious licensure process here. Four exams and around a dozen clinical internship experiences later, I found myself finally beginning my post-graduate training in General Adult Psychiatry in Miami, FL. Prior to this though, I spent a year and a half working as a Substance Abuse Counselor in New York City at a Suboxone clinic where I witnessed the devastation of the opioid ep

I have special expertise in treating individuals who have medical illnesses and are in need of medication support as a component of their care. I work with individuals, couples, and families to address their relationship or career issues. My style is professional, empathic and approachable. Psychoeducation is at the core of my practice. I collaborate regularly with your therapist/PCP to discuss and plan your best, most effective treatment course. Not everyone needs medications.

TMS is a good option for patients with depression who have failed to respond adequately to several trials of antidepressants and or who could not tolerate treatment with medications. They must have also tried some therapies such as CBT. These are basically the criteria for insurance coverage with some nuances. At this time it is covered through Cigna, United Health Care, BCBS, Aetna, Tricare, Medicare. We are the only TMS facility to offer treatment to TEENS and CHILDREN OFF LABEL that I am aware of. We are the first Tampa practice to offer a Theta Burst protocol. We have a EEG system on site but it is not covered by insurance.

Mr. Hyman has been a mental health provider for approximately twenty years. He earned his master’s degree at Boston College and is ANCC certified in Adult Psychiatry and Mental Health. He has a great deal of experience working with special populations.
