Taking the decision to come to therapy takes courage. The next step is finding a therapist that you feel comfortable to work with. My belief is that the quality of relationship created between therapist and client is key to a successful outcome. Therefore my wish is to provide a safe and confidential space in which we can build a trusting and respectful relationship. Through carefully listening to you and the concerns that have brought you to therapy my aim is to work with you at a pace that suits your needs but also provides you with challenge when you are ready.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsettled by both personal experiences and the wider uncertainty of the world. They may be carrying the impact of trauma, abuse, addiction, loss, or long-term stress, while outwardly appearing to cope. Often they are seeking understanding rather than quick fixes — a safe, steady space to make sense of their feelings, feel less alone, and begin to reconnect with a sense of calm, meaning, and emotional stability.

I offer therapy for people who are carrying the weight of trauma, particularly complex relational trauma and sexual trauma. There are experiences that don't just live in the memory, but live in the body, in relationships, and in parts of you that feel 'too much' or 'not enough'. The way I work is gentle, but certainly not avoidant. Together, we can create a space that feels safe and trustworthy to really explore you as a person, and to find ways of empowering you to explore what feels more aligned to who you really are.

Sometimes things just don’t feel right. You might be struggling to work out who you are and what you want or finding it hard to cope with life’s challenges – feeling stressed, unfulfilled or stuck. Maybe you've been deeply affected by specific events and loss – perhaps the death of a loved one, relationship breakdown, redundancy or illness. Is what you're experiencing affecting your relationships and behaviour and bringing painful feelings, including anger, sadness, vulnerability, guilt and shame, sometimes leaving you anxious and depressed? I am committed to supporting clients wishing to address challenging personal issues.

We are all unique individuals. I see people who suffer from anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship difficulties and trauma as well as other difficulties. I will aim to help you make sense of what is currently going on for you and then to set goals or a way forward.. I believe that clients need to experience compassion and kindness as well as often, a structured way of working with specific difficulties. If structure is less of a goal and need, I aim to provide a settling in which trust is foremost and so creating a safe space to talk about difficult emotions.

Starting counselling can feel daunting. I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore what’s going on for you and make sense of difficulties at your own pace. I work integratively, tailoring my approach to each individual’s experiences and needs. Alongside private practice, I work in an NHS Talking Therapies service as a senior therapist and Health Inequalities Lead, supporting adults with anxiety and depression. I also have experience working with individuals affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families. I am a trained Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) practitioner.

We all need to talk at times and sometimes we all need to take time out to work things through. This is a brave step, so it's important to know who I am and what I can offer; I am an experienced BABCP accredited CBT Psychotherapist and an accredited EMDR Practitioner, I also interweave 3rd Wave CBT techniques including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Schema therapy into my clinical treatment. I believe that ultimately we are all human beings that feel pain and require compassion and non-judgemental support.

My background in working for organisations across London & Kent gave me a particular understanding of the emotional challenges that many of us face including, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief, bereavement, relationship & family issues. I believe that evidence based psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) along with an integrative counselling approach allows flexibility in dealing with each individual’s needs. This, combined with a safe & non-judgemental therapeutic relationship is key for the process of change & recovery.

My goal as a therapist is to help you explore the emotional questions in your life so you can understand, with greater clarity, why you feel like you do. My practice offers a non-judgemental, confidential setting to reflect on what has brought you to this point in your life, and to consider your potential to live differently in the future. Coming from a background in the arts I pay close attention to the narratives we build and the disguises we assume to protect ourselves from pain. Understanding how these patterns are formed can help you decide which aspects of your life you want to hold onto, and which you would rather let go.

Hi, I'm Fiona. Welcome to my profile. I am an experienced, and qualified counsellor who loves her job. I understand how difficult it is to approach counselling, and know how daunting, scary and anxiety provoking it can be to choose the "right counsellor for you". Perhaps your daily life leaves you confused enough, without having to make yet another decision. Perhaps your goal is to understand yourself more fully, or learn ways of accepting past experiences, and finding a more relaxed, and happier way to move forward. If you are looking for someone patient, warm and non judgemental, I'd really like to be that person to help you.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
