I am a BABCP accredited CBT/REBT therapist supporting adults with anxiety and depression. Whether anxiety is a new problem or something someone has grappled with for a long time and whether anxiety is specific such as OCD, GAD, social anxiety, panic, health anxiety and phobias or a sense of unease, the evidence-based and solution focussed approach of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can help. I also support clients with low mood, depression and emotional problems such as anger, shame, guilt and low self esteem. Sometimes clients are not sure which way to turn or feel stuck; both CBT and REBT can help you to clarify a way forward.

Hello, my name is Ash. I am a qualified counsellor, working one to one with clients at my office in the heart of Cranbrook. My approach and training is integrative, which means the kind of therapy I offer draws from a variety of different theoretical approaches. Every therapeutic relationship is unique, and your preferences to how we work are key. My aim is to offer you an opportunity to explore what you need in a safe and contained space, without judgement. However, I am not a ‘nodding dog’ or ‘blank screen’ type of therapist. I will work hard alongside you, to be an active partner in this process.

I am an experienced, welcoming and open-minded counsellor. Exploring in-depth what is troubling us with someone who is really listening, not just to your words but to the person behind them, can in itself be a healing process. It may also bring to light beliefs and ways of living that are holding you back. I draw on a range of integrative talking therapies (including Internal Family Systems). When something more is needed than talking alone, Brainspotting (a somatic therapy that evolved out of EMDR) can offer a gentle but powerful way to access deeper areas of the brain where emotional difficulties arise.

Having worked as a Counsellor for a number of years, I really believe in both the changes that Therapy can make, as well as the potential and ability that we all have within ourselves for growth and change. Being able to talk openly to someone else in a confidential and accepting setting can be helpful in itself. It can also help in gaining understanding and acceptance, working through difficulties you are facing and helping you to make the changes you wish.

I am trained in, and experienced with, supporting people facing common mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety. My deeper passion lies in trauma-related work, and I am well-equipped to help you explore life experiences that may have left you struggling in the present day. These experiences can sometimes contribute to developing mental health challenges or affect your day-to-day wellbeing, and together we can work gently and safely through their impact.

So, let's talk about you. Perhaps you've experienced a painful break up from a romantic relationship and are left hurt, confused, scared even and are feeling totally lost and unsure of how to move forward. Sometimes we just don't want to let go! The anxiety of it all can be through the roof and can really leave you questioning yourself and leave you feeling small with next to no self worth, destroying confidence. Thank you very much for visiting my page. I am a Person Centred counsellor based in Seaford and I rent a room in the town centre. I aim to offer a safe place which is free of judgement and a positive atmosphere where we can explore whatever you may wish to bring to each session. In return I’ll also offer honesty and transparency to help build our relationship. I endeavour to work with you as an individual and not just on an individual problem. A personal favourite analogy of mine is “I will attempt to put your shoes on and walk with you but I won’t do up the laces”.

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist meaning I draw on a range of methods to help my clients. I am interested in the relationship between thinking, emotions, past development, spiritual beliefs and lifestyle and how psychotherapy can help restore a natural balance between these processes. Many clients who present with anxiety, depression and other diagnoses experience confusion, hopelessness and loss of control. Exploring relationships, meaning, choices and connections can enhance their capacity for growth and development. Therapy can help clients experience powerful personal change in themselves and often in others around them.

As a therapist and midwife I understand the barriers you might feel asking for help during the perinatal period (pregnancy, birth or postnatally). Many people struggle to talk about their anxiety, depression or doubts and worries about being a parent. You might feel judged or that you have failed in some way and there can be a real sense of pressure to feel positive throughout, making it sometimes feel really hard to admit you are struggling, so I understand just how significant asking for help is. Reaching out is positive and is the first step towards recovery - of your sense of self, your self worth and your wellbeing.

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
