Do you suffer with anxiety, find yourself always worrying, feeling overwhelmed and on edge and perhaps struggling to sleep. Or maybe you are feeling low, unable to motivate yourself, and finding it hard to engage in activities and live a meaningful life, all possibly by questioning your self worth and doubting yourself. All of these areas would benefit from CBT therapy, mindfulness therapies.

Are traumatic experiences holding you back? Do you want to process the disturbing things that have happened to you and not been processed? Maybe you do not even fully know what happened to you. This is quite common with trauma. Some events are either pre-verbal or have been dissociated. If any of this is you, then we can work together to manage anxiety, PTSD and C-PTSD. I use a mix of talk therapy, EMDR, NLP, parts work - all in combination with hypnotherapy to help clients. Hypnosis is important to the work as a state of very light trance enables you to access your thoughts and feelings more effectively.

I get it. I've been there. You seem confident, ambitious and are always there for others. People think you lead a great life but it doesn’t always feel that way. You got through childhood and teenage years and have lots to be grateful for. Despite all of your effort and achievement in life, something doesn't feel quite right. An anxious, nagging feeling sits in your mind and body and makes you uncomfortable in your own skin. You’ve ignored it and carried on but you have many questions. It’s frustrating and exhausting but something has prompted you to find answers. You want to be more relaxed within yourself and feel good enough.

Motherhood is profoundly intense and triggering. You deserve to thrive, not just survive day to day, pouring your energy into other people.Clients come to me for help with things like low mood/depression, anxiety, anger, burnout, not enjoying their children and issues with relationships and self confidence. Often my clients have overcome difficult childhoods or life events and find that 'old stuff' bothers them again because of the stresses and triggers of early motherhood. You can talk to me about anything, not just parenting. I work in an LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity-affirming way.

From my experience some of the main reasons people seek counselling or therapy is their desire to change and/or to find some relief from distress. My purpose is to help you achieve this and support you during the process. Perhaps you are feeling frustrated with repeating patterns of behaviour that feel hard to understand and change. Maybe you are feeling depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, suffering with self-doubt and low self-esteem, or generally disappointed with how life is for you right now. These are just a few of the issues that I can help you with.

I have a heart for those who haven't felt heard or understood and I will treat what you share with the utmost care. I can offer you compassion where maybe you feel you haven't received it before, or maybe you feel like you don't deserve it because that internal voice tells you you are not good enough. I can help you discover the roots of that voice, weakening its influence over you and allowing you to build a new voice that is encouraging and supportive. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard, what you think and how you feel really is important to me.

I know that it can be daunting reaching out for help and that many people never do reach out, perhaps because they are the strong ones who are supporting everyone else around them so their needs are at the bottom of the long list of things to do and people to look after. Please know that you are important too. And in helping yourself, you are also helping those around you. If you are feeling troubled, I'm here to listen without judgement and I can help and support you to work towards feeling better. Remember tomorrow is a bright new day and there is always hope.

Therapy is one time when it is all about you. Your experiences, your feelings. When things feel difficult – whether or not you know the reasons why, therapy can really help. How? At the heart of therapy is your relationship with your therapist. When your therapist offers you space to think and to feel, uninterrupted and without judgement, you can start to make more sense of things, together. So it’s important to find a good connection. There are many types of therapist – it’s not necessarily sensible shoes and long silences.

Reaching out for therapy is a brave step but it can also be a daunting one. It can be hard to know where to turn to or who to trust. I understand this firsthand as I too sought therapy many years ago to help address my own battle with depression. Indeed it was this experience that ignited my passion for helping others struggling with their mental health and which led me to re-train as a therapist. I feel very privileged to be able to support people in their time of need and strive to do so by providing a non-judgemental, compassionate and collaborative space for talking.

I am very good at treating people with Anxiety, Depression, Personality Disorders, as well as those with traumatic experiences. I apply a very modern and effective type of dynamic psychotherapy called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I work on repressed feelings and emotions and help you to get rid of the pain and suffer to become a mature personality. For most people, psychological stress and unresolved traumas are so overwhelming that often leads to many other problems, such as low performance, low confidence, unpleasant encounters and a gradual destruction of well-being. If left untreated, these psychological issues can be transferred from one generation to the next, due to its lasting effects on children. Modern treatments in psychotherapy can help you overcome many types of psychological problems. People suffering from these problems can be helped to regain their sense of pride, efficiency, and effectiveness. My clients need to be well motivated, and cooperative.

I work with children and young people, specialising in anxiety and OCD. I help them learn new skills and attitudes to improve their ability to handle difficult thoughts and feelings and do more of what matters to them and make more room for connection. Mental health challenges encroach on their lives, make them avoid and make their world smaller. They disconnect from themselves, the things they care about and the people that matter to them. They underestimate their strengths and resources, overestimate life’s challenges and get stuck.

You might be feeling low, anxious, stuck in a rut in a relationship or at work or, alternatively, repeating the same old mistakes. You might have decided it's time to make sense of things that have happened in the past or wondering how to resolve a situation that's happening right now. Perhaps things are feeling very distressing or difficult. You might be looking for clarity and a way forward or just some space to be heard.

How can I find a therapist in Tyttenhanger?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
