As an integrative counsellor I work with a range of techniques & therapeutic practices, that I use to build a truly individualised approach to suit your particular needs.
We all have those times in our life when things get on top of us. We feel overwhelmed and maybe unable to cope. As a qualified counsellor & psychotherapist, I believe that by giving you a genuinely safe, non-judgmental space to explore and talk and unpack what’s troubling, together we can find you new ways of thinking or acting that will help you to feel better. Whether that’s building self-esteem; coping & living with anxiety and depression or dealing with a difficult life event, my intention is to work with you to find the resilience & skills you need to make changes that stick.

Hi, I am Clare, a compassionate, warm, friendly, and professional integrative relational psychotherapist. I work alongside clients in a respectful, empowering, non-judgemental way, to deepen understanding, identify choices and enable change. I believe that our early relationships and experiences have a profound impact on how we feel and behave, and on what we believe about ourselves and the world around us. Having counselling will enable you to rediscover yourself in a safe place, where you can go at your own pace and allow yourself to release your true emotions that you may have locked away but are causing anxiety or distress.

Having worked in children’s mental health in primary and secondary schools for 20 years I have gained an in-depth understanding of the difficulties faces by children, teenagers and young children. I work in a non-judgemental way to help my clients to untangle and unlock their issues. Often emotions and behaviours are caused by unknown and unmet needs. I work in a supportive person-centred way to help you to find whatever it is that makes you angry, worried, stressed, lacking in confidence and any other unwanted feeling. With support you will be able to change these negative feelings and find control over your emotions.

Life can be hard. We can feel anxious, depressed, confused or alone. We may struggle to find happiness in ourselves, and our relationships with others. We may be trying to come to terms with loss or abuse. There may be things from the past that still trouble us, and it might not be easy to discuss our problems with friends or family. It can be a relief to talk in confidence with someone who will truly listen and see things from our own point of view. Someone who can support us while we make sense of our feelings and work with us at our own pace towards finding our own solutions. This is what I will provide for you.

It is a bit scary deciding if you need counselling, wondering what it will be like, fitting it into your life, maintaining it. There will be many questions running through your head, and maybe, right now, no answers. And that's okay. It isn't an easy decision but once it is made, those feelings will start to move. If you chose to work with me, the first session will be getting to know what will help. Offering Person Centred Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Expressive and Creative Arts, we will look at which intervention suits you and which would be best for the difficulties you are experiencing.

People come to talk to me for lots of reasons. Sometimes there is a defined problem, it may be longstanding or recent; it may be related to a life event or something upcoming that is raising anxiety; there may be questions or difficulties in some key relationships, or at work; it may not be clear at all, but you are experiencing unease and wish to get to the bottom of why. Coming to talk to a trained and registered psychotherapist guarantees a secure, safe and confidential space in which to explore any or all of the above, alone, as a couple or in a family group.

I offer a non-judgemental integrative approach to relationship and psychosexual therapy to work best with your circumstance, whatever they are, whether single, in a couple or open/polyamorous relationships. Troubled relationships, arguing, erection issues, loss of desire, anxiety, painful sex, vaginismus, shame about porn use or kinks, communication problems. This can all change.

I am interested in why you are seeking counselling; you may wish to describe any previous experiences of counselling you have had. You may wish to express what you feel your current support systems include- such as family and friends- and think about what you would like to achieve through therapy. If we decide to work together, we can agree a mutually convenient way to engage. I view entering into a therapeutic relationship as an act of bravery and a leap of faith. Building trust in our relationship is a journey I never underestimate and a privilege that I never take for granted.

What is integrative therapy?
Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.
How does integrative therapy work?
Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behaviour patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.
How long does integrative therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
How effective is integrative therapy?
There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
