The success of any therapy work is largely dependent upon the quality of the therapeutic relationship.
Hello, I am Janette. I am a UKCP and BACP-registered psychotherapist. I meet with individuals and couples in person from my practice in Nottingham, and remotely, using the Zoom platform. I gained my MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute and Staffordshire University. I understand how for many people, the decision to seek therapy can feel like a daunting experience, and so I aim to make you feel as comfortable and at ease as possible from the very first session. I welcome the opportunity for us to meet.

With over 17 years experience, I work with adults, young people and couples.
I offer short-term counselling, where we can work through more immediate and specific problems and longer-term psychotherapy for more intricate and deeper exploration. Whatever you have experienced, my aim is to help you move forward and benefit from the way you want to live your life. I understand how the impact of trauma on our lives creates a block in how we think and behave; where our past can overshadow or impede our view of our present life. With grief & loss, I recognise the parallel process of coping with our daily lives whilst managing a roller coaster of emotions and feelings that is both challenging and exhausting.

I also offer counselling for couples, giving you both time and space to be heard by each other, introducing different communication styles and working with issues as they arise.
I offer a non-judgemental, safe environment to help you understand yourself and your life. Counselling can support you to find your own insights, new ways of being with yourself and others, and work towards healing and freedom. It can be a space to get things off your chest, rest or reset, find perspective and understanding in life and relationships, as well as having someone to really hear and be with you as you share and explore what is difficult. My practice is informed by Buddhist philosophy and meditation, which I have been exploring and supporting others with for over 15 years, emphasising embodied awareness and compassion.

A successful therapeutic endeavour is born from a robust and secure meeting of people; an authentic and meaningful relationship which champions authentic contact between us.
I work through an integrative lens, from a humanistic grounding. In sum, you are the centre of the work we do; the expert by experience on your life. My aim as a therapist is to be alongside you where you are now, and to work with you to define current obstacles, and move forward into a space that is more desirable and satisfactory for you.

The most important thing in therapy is the relationship.
Sometimes it can be helpful to talk to someone, other than those you know, about what you are thinking and how you are feeling. If you feel anxious, sad, or depressed, if you’re grieving, dealing with trauma, anger, worry or self-esteem, struggling with relationships, not sure where life is taking you, or considering new opportunities, I can help. My name is Michelle, and I provide confidential, non-judgmental, counselling and psychotherapy for adults (individuals and couples) from my base in West Bridgford, Nottingham. I offer in-person, online or telephone appointments.

I believe the relationship between a client and therapist is key to successful outcomes, which is why I offer a complimentary call, so that you can decide whether I might be the right therapist for you.
As a Psychotherapist, Life Coach & Hypnotherapist, my clients get x3 professional competencies for the price of 1! I feel it’s time the truth was known about depression, mental illness & menopause. I identify the ‘root causes’ of distress, using a unique, methodology & practice, that considers psychological pain as a ‘symptom’. This paradigm shift, regarding the root cause of psychological distress, ensures my clients experience freedom from depression, stress, anxiety, the misery of menopause, addictions, & compulsive behaviours. This catalyses psychological growth & offers powerful sustainable transformation.

Even though you are looking for a psychotherapist or coach who specialises in working with neurodivergent people, your identity may not be the central reason for seeking a therapist. You can arrive presenting with anything that is part of human experience or life. Yet, the importance of choosing a neurodivergent psychotherapist is that there will be understanding of any sensory and processing differences. This means that wrong assumptions about how you ‘should be’ aren’t made, you won't be misread, and, consequently, the work will have meaning and usefulness for you. Adult individuals and couples are welcome.

I am an experienced Counsellor, specialising in Couples counselling and relationship issues.
Are you living with feelings of self- doubt, blame, anger or shame? Do you need help to cope with depression or anxiety? Maybe you have suffered loss, and doubt your ability to sustain meaningful relationships with family and friends. Perhaps you are in a relationship that is stuck in the rut, or mired in hopelessness, negativity, and mistrust. It may be that your relationship has changed from a loving one to one of repeated misunderstandings, heated arguments or frosty silence. Stressful life events can bring about such difficulties, or sometimes disappointments simply accumulate over time.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
