I specialise in addiction, trauma and personality disorder.
After many years of my own struggles and trying to navigate the emotional turmoil of my chaotic life I made the decision to start therapy. This journey allowed me to unravel the complex emotions that kept me a prisoner in my own head for many years. Therapy set me free and allowed me to explore and understand the trauma of my childhood and the damaged inner child living inside of me as an adult. I was able to let go of my past and live a more fulfilling life. As I healed I decided to become a therapist and help people just like you. If you feel stuck and want to move forward please get in touch.

We all need a little help from time to time and I am here to help you not have to carry those heavy burdens alone. My main focus is on you; your aims, your truth, the real you, you feel you longer can be and how we can work together to get you back on track.

I have experience of working with a range of issues from anxiety, depression and addiction.
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the stresses in life? Feel unable to make decisions? Do you condemn yourself for making the 'wrong' decision? We can be good at condemning ourselves and be our worst critic. Discovering what patterns are happening for us over and over again, and preparing yourself for these, knowing what you can and can't do, can feel empowering. Being able to express yourself knowing that you can be heard without fear, embarrassment or shame but with acceptance of you as a person can be life changing. I can help you look at making changes and find bespoke ways to support and establish a way forward for you.

I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addiction and relationship concerns to name just a few.
I realise what a daunting task it can be, to admit to yourself that you need support and to reach out to someone. Many people spend a long time thinking they can just snap out of it and beating themselves up when they are not able to, creating a vicious cycle that is hard to break. The fact you are here, looking for support is the first step, and often one of the hardest. If you are finding yourself repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour, finding daily life a struggle, or looking to explore your past, present or future, I can support you as you work through them and step into the life that you want, and deserve.

My specialist areas are relational difficulties and trauma. From these areas, we experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown, and at times other harmful and/or repetitive behaviours. My focus will be on helping you understand the function they have served for you, where they come from, and how to bring about change I have experience of working with individuals who present with diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, with one or more of the many different personality disorder, and with individuals who experience psychotic states of mind. That said, anyone can engage in therapy at any time, and, for any reason.

Life can sometimes be a terrible struggle. We may put on a brave face and push down how we're truly feeling. Yet when we don't have an outlet for those feelings we've internalised our confusion and isolation can escalate. We may be experiencing stress, anxiety or depression, which can hinder our ability to function as we'd like to. It takes strength and courage to acknowledge these issues, and even more to ask for help...and there IS help! By seeking assistance you're already taking a significant step towards feeling better about yourself. I'm convinced that you're now using your innate ability to overcome what you're going through.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
