Life can bring us many difficulties, challenges, issues, stresses and anxieties. It can also bring many over whelming feelings such as pain, anger, sadness, hopelessness, guilt and regret. I am a gentle, emphathic, non judgmental counsellor; I see myself as a down to earth regular person and believe in talking to people on their own level.

My name is Natasha and I run The Wellness Project. I help individuals and couples to find a more vibrant and easeful way of life. I believe that if we work to understand your unique psychological make-up, with an appropriate level of support and challenge, change is possible. I consider us equally important in the process and will help you to feel comfortable - always working from a place of kindness and respect. My core training is in Transactional Analysis - however, I have significant post qualification training and consider myself to work integratively, drawing on lots of different theories and skills to best help my clients.

Choosing to access therapy can be a huge step, and it really is one that I wish to help you take. Hello, my name is Marie, and I would like to offer you face-to-face counselling in a kind, caring, and non-judgemental, confidential environment. The work I offer is based around weekly 1-2-1 sessions where I will compassionately provide you with a space to process what has been going on for you and to help you feel validated, perhaps even for the very first time, whilst we work together to try and discover what it is that you inevitably need, as we look to make your life meaningful again.

Have you or a loved one been through a life changing event or medical trauma, leaving you unsure of what the future holds? Or are you a young person unsure which direction to take your future? Use me to help you find your answers. Maybe you are not where you thought you would be in life by now. I can help you to build confidence and find clarity in life. I've had my own hairdressing business and trained young people to achieve their goals. Then I had a catastrophic stroke after my second child was born. Life changed dramatically. I learned how and now want to help you, to feel in control and find meaning and direction in your life.

My main area of expertise is relationship therapy, helping couples navigate challenges, anxieties, repeating patterns, sex problems and more. Are you experiencing emotional or sexual challenges, could your relationship be contributing to feelings of low in mood and insecurities or maybe you feel unheard and need a safe space to discuss conflict with a partner. Relationship therapy can also be a good starting point for a single person looking to find a way in life that no longer consists of being in a relationship, this can leave a person feeling sad, lonely, cut off from friendship groups and future plans once made.

Are you fed up with shrinking yourself for others? Are you looking for someone to work with while you figure things out and find your confidence? If low confidence or a lack of self-esteem is holding you back, therapy could be the safe space to talk, build yourself up, and tackle the trauma, issues, or hurdles that you feel are holding you back. If relationships, family issues or people-pleasing are problems for you, but you feel like you deserve more in your life and want to tackle the things that have been too hard to face before - I’d love to work with you.

I am an integrative therapist who values the inner strength it takes one to be vulnerable whilst sharing their lived experience. My focus is to try and walk in one's world. Therefore I value every person I speak to with respect for who they are and how they have got to where they are. I refrain from judging you and provide a source of complete acceptance and support. You will lead the conversation, and I will not attempt to steer you in any direction; instead, I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental environment for you to explore and talk about any difficulties you may be experiencing.

As someone who has suffered from anxiety in the past and who has a son with ADHD, I understand how these problems affect clients and the frustration they cause. I recognise that clients want to learn how to reduce and control their symptoms so that they can lead a more fulfilling and functional life.

Hello, my name is Sally and I will be present with you on your therapeutic journey. Having a safe space to explore current concerns offers a 'neutral' sounding board for you, as often well meaning friends and family will have an opinion on our life and decisions we make. We will work at your pace to prioritise your needs. Over the years many client issues I have encountered are about loss in various forms, and control - often from others. You may feel helpless or in despair, and would like to be able to clear a pathway for yourself to see with more clarity and establish an easier way of managing day to day.

Hi, I'm Jo. I'm a qualified Play Therapist who loves to help children, and their families, live happier lives. I believe play therapy builds self awareness, resilience, self-confidence, and empathy. Children can find it hard to explain their feelings in adult words; using play, the child can express themselves more clearly. As I help the child to understand what is happening within them, the child can begin to develop new coping strategies. I practice in a systemic manner, which means I like to work closely with the adults around the child. This helps me to support not just the child, but the family as a whole.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
