I am warm, relational, in depth and practical.
COVID-19 emotional help. I work using both somatic (body) as well as talk therapies (psycho dynamic). I find this combination to be more profound than just one modality. I bring extensive experience with mental illness and trauma. Like most therapists, I have several areas of practice in which I feel distinctly equipped to work. These include anxiety, depression, recovery from interpersonal trauma/ abuse, neglect, communication issues (for e.g. bosses, friends, partners. family members) stress of everyday life, grief, couple issues, childhood attachment issues, PTSD and dissociative disorders.

There comes a point in someone’s life where they decide, “enough is enough. Something has to change, and this change starts with me.” My ideal client is someone who is tired of old unhelpful repeated life patterns and who is determined to grow and become a better version of themselves. They are individuals who are ready to put in the work to see the results that will lead them to the life outcomes they long for. The issues I have worked for are addictions, men’s mental health, experiences from a multicultural lens, relational issues, and anxiety & coping skills.

Accepting New Clients: In-Person & Phone/Video. We believe that there is good in every person, and hope in every situation. We have helped individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and connect. As relational therapists, we appreciate the impact that our relationships have on our well-being. We do not see clients as having something wrong with their minds that necessarily needs to be fixed. Rather, we see our clients as unique individuals, each with their own stories and perspectives, embedded in important relationships and contexts that impact them. We see strengths and we see hope, even when it feels like there is none.

I work with clients holistically, recognizing that the things we struggle with are only one aspect of ourselves, giving consideration to our needs--spiritual, emotional, physical, cognitive, relational--and our strengths.
***NOW ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR PHONE/VIDEO*** It’s a privilege and honour to be doing this work, and to walk alongside clients on their respective healing journeys. I believe that everyone is the expert of their own lives and life experiences. By working collaboratively and through meaning-making, I aim to support clients in connecting with their needs, dreams, hopes, as well as to the answers I believe each person has inside them. My approach is trauma-informed, non-directive, strength-based, and client-centered. Healing, the discovery of possibilities, one’s resilience, and one's gifts can all be part of the therapy process.

To put it simply, I love people. And what inspires me as a therapist is the opportunity to serve others through authentic connection and collaborative insight into clients' thoughts, feelings and actions. While drawn to cognitive behavioral and Mindfulness interventions, for me, providing a safe, warm and open relational component is key. Whether working with couples, individual adults or adolescents, and issues ranging from anxiety, depression, trauma, or sexuality, intimacy and interpersonal functioning, it is a privilege to hold your confidence and assist you in your journey towards integration and wellness

My approach is relational and collaborative.
Sometimes everything can feel like too much. How do we carry everything that’s happened to us and keep going? How do we process who we were and what we’ve experienced at the same time that we’re trying to grow towards the future? I will help you hold it all as we work through things. My approach is guided by you: the client. Together we will co-create a space that feels safe and expansive, for you to explore at your own pace. Like many people, I live at the intersection of many identities—what are you coming in with? What can we explore together? Therapy offers a space to figure out where you're going and how you want to get there.

The experience of developmental trauma creates a disconnection from one's self by forcing us into a predicament where we have to chose between acceptance and authenticity. As your psychotherapist, I employ a highly conversational and relational, trauma focused approach, to foster insight into the deep-seated roots, and functionality of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. My goal is to help you understand the ways you learned to protect your self and reconnect to and reclaim your authenticity.

It's okay not to feel okay. If you grew up in a damaging environment, you had to develop ingenious ways of surviving. Enduring your childhood is proof of your strength and resilience. However, you're no longer that child and feel just surviving isn't enough. The problem is that the past won't let you move on—your suffering is not your fault. What helped you in the past may now be hindering your growth. It's time to rewrite your narrative. Join me, and together we will give voice to the parts of you that have been shamed, hidden, and denied. We can't undo the past's grave injustices, but we can take away their power.

I work with individuals seeking guidance, emotional support, mental clarity, harmony in mind and body. Whether experiencing relationship conflict, stress, grief, trauma or seeking new perspectives and fresh solutions on your life journey, the essence of my approach is to provide a safe, supportive base where you can explore, understand, and heal issues causing discomfort and imbalance in your life. Physical limitations, social discomfort, and the challenge of living in a fast-paced changing world all contribute to "dis-ease" in the body/mind. This can present itself in the form of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, eating disorders, addiction and more.

I work with children and adolescents struggling with trauma or regulation-based concerns, and their families. Trauma-informed care strives to create physical, psychological, and emotional safety for individuals with every contact. Trauma-informed care moves away from a "what's wrong with you" perspective and seeks to determine "what's happened" and how best we can move forward collaboratively in a safe, strengths-based way.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
