I work with children and adolescents struggling with trauma or regulation-based concerns, and their families. Trauma-informed care strives to create physical, psychological, and emotional safety for individuals with every contact. Trauma-informed care moves away from a "what's wrong with you" perspective and seeks to determine "what's happened" and how best we can move forward collaboratively in a safe, strengths-based way.
Referral concerns may include (but are not limited to): Difficulties related to child abuse or neglect, attachment concerns, single-episode traumas, psychological impact of medical-based trauma, self-injury, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, anxiety-based regulation concerns, and aggression. Services vary based on individual needs.
I regularly provide training and consultation to schools, child care settings, group homes, and mental health centres on the impact of trauma and developing more trauma-informed spaces. Trainings range in topic and length. On-site consultation is also available.
