Maybe you try to down play how bad it really is, to your family or friends, but deep inside you know something has to change.
Today, we live in a fast-paced, stressful world. The hardships of balancing our work, education and personal time becomes increasingly hard to achieve. Our responsibilities continue to grow and the world around us is becoming so demanding. Sometimes, to cope we use resources which may, in fact, be harmful to ourselves. Addictions are often felt as shameful and concealed from others. We are all vulnerable to making decisions that are not always in our best interest. I am not here to judge you, but rather provide useful tools which will help provide opportunities for making healthier choices.

My education and experience has led me to a profound passion for the restoration of people. I value understanding how the human mind functions on a day to day basis. My education and experience in Marriage (Couple) and Family Therapy has led me to further expertise on topics including communication, conflict resolution, relationship issues, sex and stress within relationships. I believe therapy should never be seen as a failure, but rather as an avenue of growth and restoration.

Let’s take this journey together and restore peace and connection back to your family.
I understand the struggle of kids feeling overwhelmed or parents feeling burnt out from trying to keep everything together. Life can feel like an endless cycle of stress and anxiety, with parents often feeling helpless and exhausted.

As an Indigenous adoptee during the sixties scoop, I have an understanding of losing your biological family, losing your culture and identity, wondering of who you truly are and where you come from.
Were you adopted as a child and struggling with your identity? Experiencing feelings of loneliness and being lost? Wondering where you belong, where you fit in this world? A feeling of emptiness and that you are disconnected from yourself? Don’t feel like you always fit in with your adopted family? Do you wonder if you look or possess the traits of anyone else? Wondering how to begin to search and discover who you are and to truly love yourself?

Let's connect and navigate this path together to enhance your child’s emotional well-being and build stronger, more empathetic family and self relationships.
I have spent more than 20 years working with families of children with identified learning disorders, in another field, I have watched the struggle parents and kids experience. Frustration, concern, joy, fear.. the emotional impact these identified 'LD' children and their parents experience as they navigate school expectations and daily life. The highs and lows. The lack of motivation and low self-esteem. These are the reasons, I chose to become a counsellor. I want to support both parents and children to build better skills, and figure out how to be and love themselves - just as they are - to provide a safe space for growth.

My approach to care involves an integrative/humanistic approach while using a variety of evidence-based practices including Family Based Treatment for Anorexia/Bulimia (FBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I focus on children, teenagers and young adults struggling with eating disorders/disordered eating, body image, anxiety, and perfectionism. I promote wellness beyond weight and address related social justice issues by approaching care from a Health at Every Size theoretical lens. Intrusive thoughts related to food, weight, and self-image can be overwhelming and by using a collaborative approach to discover self-compassion, food freedom, body acceptance, and self-confidence, patients can feel empowered.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
