Slowly but surely the depression and anxiety that had plagued my life began to shift.
Have you lived life feeling like you were never really loved, like you were never truly connected? Do you find yourself in unhealthy/toxic relationships? Do you feel aligned with your inner truth or do you feel like you keep missing your chance to be who you were really meant to be? Have you experienced traumatic losses of the kinds society often doesn't acknowledge? Do you spend your time trying to make others happy and feel like you are always failing? Do you feel depressed, anxious and stressed a lot of the time? If the answer to any of these yes, I want to help. This was me for much of my life. At 33 I entered into therapy.

At times we may feel stuck or overwhelmed. We may know what is causing unease or pain, but often we struggle to understand the cause. A therapy relationship at these times, can bring better understanding and help you think in new ways about yourself, your relationships and your journey forward.

Life, from beginning to end, is one long exercise of constant change, new learning and the choices we make. The sum total of that is what we call 'my life'.

My passion for “helping others” began at a very young age. Since then, I have equipped myself with the knowledge and the skill set needed to journey with others. My role is to come along side you, and assist where I can, so your life journey can be lighter with each step that you take. My approach is to holistically understand the individual, each intervention is specifically designed for you, so that your therapeutic needs are consistently met.

Sometimes life can be hard and we can feel overwhelmed and defeated by circumstances and experiences. Do you feel disconnected or isolated from your friends and family? Do you feel tired all the time? Do you feel burned out? Do you feel anxious and uncertain about what's happening in your life? Are you struggling with a relationship, whether it's a family member or loved one? Do you often question yourself and your worth or value? Do you sometimes wake up wishing you were someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I am here to hold your hand and listen to what you have experienced, how you think, and how you feel.

I have a strong interest in depression and anxiety, couple counselling, addiction, teenage struggles and work-related problems.
Therapy is only likely to be effective when the therapist and client have a relationship that is based on integrity, trust, safety and the absence of judgement. Creating that space is my overriding priority. When the therapy space is safe, we are able to explore our emotional lives, our relationships, our work, our play and our intrapersonal dynamics in ways that allow for a deeper consideration of what is best for us and those around us. I work with whatever is most important to you at this chapter of your life with a view to crafting the the most considered choice.

I enjoy working with people who want to explore themselves deeply, to ask questions about their internal world and make sense of how they relate to others, themselves and the outer world. You may well present with depression or anxiety or be struggling in a relationship. You want to engage therapeutically and gain insight into your relational dynamics and be able to make links between past early relationships with parents or family of origin and how these experiences have predisposed you to relating to others and the world in a unique way. You seek greater freedom from emotional conditioning and to know the fullness and joy of life.

My scope of practice includes working with clients who need support with everyday challenges, stress, anxiety, grief, loss, trauma-related challenges, relationship challenges, self-care and wellness.
My name is Anke and I recognize your courage in seeking additional support. In our sessions together, I meet you where you are in your head and heart. I create a safe and sacred space, in which we can collaborate to positively impact your healing journey. A favourite quote of mine is from Gabor Maté, who expressed, "Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within". To me, healing is a complex but rewarding journey, that requires empathy towards our inner and external worlds.

Hi. I have been in practice for 33 years and continue to be passionate about what I do. I work with high functioning adults using a form of Psychotherapy which I have developed called Therapeutic Coaching. I am interactive in my approach whilst having been trained as a Depth Psychologist. What this means is that I am trained to identify my clients' underlying issues, childhood traumas, depression, anxiety etc. but work in a very interactive way in dealing with these. I work with individuals as well as with couples and have a reputation for working successfully with challenging couples who are in crisis.

I help people who are stuck, in their heads or in undigested emotions, or in difficult life circumstances, relationships and families. I teach that the only person you can change is yourself, but when you do, the ripple effect is massive. Be the change you want to see, never mind what trauma has led to your anxiety, depression etc. We're all addicts: we all have devoted habits or coping mechanisms. After a while these harm us. Find another way. I use a Transpersonal approach because it's v effective. This means I remind you you are connected to something greater than yourself, however you define that - and how to employ that daily.

I have a special interest in working with individual and intergenerational trauma, grief, addiction, anxiety, depression, and conscious relating, and focus on the embodiment of all of life’s experiences.
Humans are inherently whole, however life's traumas and challenges can leave one fragmented and disconnected. I work with individuals, couples and groups to provide an integrative and holistic approach towards healing and meaning-making. I draw from various modalities and apply my approach based on the needs of my clients. My work is firmly grounded in contextual and cultural considerations, which enables me to work consciously with people from all walks of life.

Reaching out for help can be anxiety provoking, but it shows courage and strength.
Life can be challenging and we may feel lost, overwhelmed or a myriad of other emotions that we do not always understand. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space in which to understand and find ways of overcoming these challenges. Our lives are unique, and as such the focus of therapy I provide is aligned to your particular needs, whether it is to manage a crisis within yourself, or to better understand and function in relationships with others. I work with children, tweens, adolescents and adults.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
