Waitlist for new clients
It is a privilege to work with individuals in my home-state of Alaska. Folks that find their way to me are often looking for ways to address past trauma, improve quality of relationships, prevent relapse and/or address substance use, explore and change patterns of codependency in relationships, express and advocate new boundaries, process grief and loss, and discover options for improved overall quality of life. I coordinate care with other providers when necessary to offer a holistic approach to the whole person, with support for as many facets of your life as possible.

Clients often come to me when they are exhausted from their thoughts, emotions, urges or memories. These issues can take a toll on relationships and a person's sense of self and leave us feeling isolated and alone. I work with people of all ages who experience common and complex problems including: depression, anxiety, burnout, the effects of traumatic circumstances (flashbacks, rumination, dissociation, avoidance, etc.), anger management skill development, codependency in relationships and establishing boundaries, ADHD and other neurodiverse thinking and social skill development for youth.

I work with adolescents and adults in the following: abuse / trauma (which can also include excessive criticism or shaming, or where one's needs were not met or boundaries were not respected), addictions, parenting, child behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, codependency, identity, self-esteem, domestic violence, and anger management.
"Freedom is what you do with what has been done to you," (Jean-Paul Sartre). We all have had things done to us. These things do not define us - the key is what we do with them afterward. I believe each and every person has what they need right inside of them; thus my job is not to fix or change, but to teach the skills to help you tap into that inner source. The answers you are looking for are available and can be found.

Life can be challenging and painful. Medication and antibiotics may be needed to address significant infected physical wounds. The same process is needed to address infections of the Heart. Medication takes time to work. The healing process takes effort. It doesn’t come easy. There are no quick fixes. The right medications attack the root, which in turn, fixes the symptoms. What are some HEART medications needed to address psychological/emotional infections? Self-awareness, forgiveness, understanding/acceptance, renewal of the mind, purpose, connection and belonging! Find freedom TODAY!

When you have tried everything to help your child, and are still not seeing meaningful change, that is where I can help. I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my career, but my passion lies in working with preschool and elementary school children. Young children face unique challenges in learning to navigate the world around them, and benefit from having a supportive space outside of their daily lives where they can explore their inner worlds, while also learning how to interact appropriately in the outside world.

You’ve been through some tough stuff. Talking about it hasn’t brought you the relief you hoped. You’re still feeling on edge, waiting for the next bad thing to happen. In your head, you know you’re safe now, but there’s a part of you that still doesn’t really believe that. Worst of all, sometimes you can't even explain or understand all the feelings yet something is getting in the way of you trusting and connecting with others. You try to get on with your life the best you can, powering through the discomfort that comes up. But something is happening in your body and mind that just doesn't make sense. You question, Am I broken

Being vulnerable and reaching out for help when you need it can be a challenge. Brené Brown states, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing. It’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” I am here to support adults facing mood, behavior, and thinking challenges, assisting them in navigating difficult times or circumstances they may be facing.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
