I have been a credentialed therapist since 1981 & a licensed psychologist since 1996. I practice general psychology & dual disorder therapy. My specialty areas are substance use prevention & recovery, couples counseling and case managing teens. As a researcher I have been the Associate Director for the University of Washington's Center for the Study and Teaching of At-Risk Students 1987-2004; then was appointed to the faculty of Johns Hopkins, Department of Mental Health [2004-2007]; and now teach doctoral therapists and psychologists [Argosy University--Seattle]. I also practice in Juneau Alaska, providing integrated medical care with their family practices.

I specialize as a therapeutic case manager--particularly for people making life changes.. My background in program direction, provides a diverse and unique insight, including: directing a hospital acute care unit, managing residential therapy programs and supervising both mental health & addictions outpatient clinics.

We help with making informed choices. Our clinicians all subscribe to the belief that freedom of consumer choice is essential to behavioral health. The only place that is restricted in WA and AK is where there are legal restrictions to confidentiality. We meet with parents and teens before therapy begins.

David D Moore's Groups

Phase II Substance Use Recovery Group

Adolescents and adults develop interpersonal relationship skills after committing to abstinence. They meet in group with 2-3 co-therapists weekly for deeper recovery. While everyone in the group must be actively working on an abstinence-based lifestyle, our roles must remain as therapists--not "relapse police". We take care not to contradict the 12 Step Program, but clients choose their personal social support, self-responsibility and relationship rebuilding path. Lttle group time is on drinking and drug use--but we offer individual therapy for client self assessment, recovery education and training about social support groups.

Women's Recovery Group

This group is for women who have experienced sexual victimization prior to the age of 14 [before high school identity formation]. All members are strongly encouraged to be in at least 2 times monthly individual therapy. This is a trauma-focused treatment process, using non-confrontive existential-humanistic counseling with 2-3 co-therapists. Two female therapists lead the 90-minute group. Dr. Moore is present for an hour. Many women had counseling or therapy without enough trauma focus to relieve anxiety and/or restore comfortable sexual activities. Group members are supportive without giving advice or interpreting others' personal history.
