My practice is centered around relationships, grief, addiction recovery, and experiences unique to women. I have a passion for working with significant life transitions, including the often-overlooked mental health aspects of perimenopause and menopause. I feel strongly about addressing the well-being and needs of women, ensuring they feel seen, empowered and heard. In our time together, we will unfold the complexities of relationships, to the self and to others, to our pain and to our joy, all the while cultivating space for you to experience more purpose, connection, compassion and fulfillment. All of which, you deserve.

Lately, the anxiety is starting to get the best of you. You find yourself overthinking every little thing, and often worry that you’re not where you thought you’d be in life. You're a woman who wants to understand herself better: how you're showing up in relationships, who "you" are outside of your responsibilities, and what gets in the way of feeling more connected within yourself and with others. You know life doesn’t have to feel like this, but with everything going on—it hasn't felt possible to find the time, space, and skills you need to create change. But now you’re ready to move beyond what's holding you back.

It is my belief that everyone navigates his or her way through their family of origin and early environment by developing strategies and coping techniques, essentially doing the best one can in the circumstances. Later, these ways of handling relationships and stressors can become limiting. Members of couples and families can also develop entrenched ways of relating that become partially based on assumptions. Frustration, anxiety, disappointment and resentment can result. Psychotherapy enables you to understand the evolution of these patterns and develop more choices in how you respond and relate to others.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that may have minimized your self-esteem. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be. I hold a container of acceptance in the therapy room, while searching for its meaning and resolution.

Being witnessed, understood and seen with kindness and compassion can be very healing and powerful. In today's world it may be difficult to find a safe space that is just yours, a place for you to freely speak about your needs, your wants, your difficulties and/or your hopes. Therapy can offer that space.

I enjoy working with clients who are seeking a more authentic connection to self and their loved ones. My intention is for clients to free themselves of old beliefs and ways of being that keep them trapped in a sense of inadequacy and separateness. As we move through the continual challenges of life we acquire imprints from others and society that can suppress our deepest knowing. I work with clients who are ready and willing to dive deep into the unknown to rekindle their inner fire and walk this earth with purpose and belonging.

If you are reading this, you have chosen to take the first step to healing. This decision is a demonstration of your resiliency, strength, and courage to be vulnerable, something to be immensely proud of. My therapeutic approach in working with individuals and couples is integrative. I recognize that no two persons are the same and that each person requires a treatment plan that is adapted to meet their needs. I recognize that experiences of trauma and pain are two unavoidable life experiences. However, I believe that there is a resiliency and strength inside each individual that supports a path of healing.

Families and loved ones can be some of most of our challenging relationships. Whether you’re struggling with a parent, partner, friend, sibling, or child, navigating relationships can be tricky at the best of times, and emotionally neglectful and traumatic in the worst. This can be incredibly painful, cause anxiety, lead to resentment, struggles with assertiveness or boundaries, conflict avoidance, or to knock on effects in other relationships – including how you feel about yourself.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
