I work mainly with young adults and individuals focusing on Women's Issues.
I believe in human resiliency. I have witnessed profound healing, strength and transformation occur in people's lives through the process of psychotherapy. I support individuals by expanding their awareness, building compassionate self-acceptance, and creating aligned action to live their preferred lives. Within the context of a therapeutic relationship, awareness, learning and healing can occur. Feeling stuck, insecure, depressed or anxious? Stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage or unhealthy coping skills? Therapy can uncover your blind spots and help you develop emotional intelligence to face life's challenges with new perspectives.

Having a comfortable and relaxed partnership with your therapist is so important when exploring the raw parts of ourselves. We often keep these tender sides hidden and experience shame that we don’t “have it all together.” In order to feel ready to illuminate issues that need attention, we must be able to deeply trust the person doing that work by our side.

In today's world being a woman can be joyful, beautiful and also incredibly overwhelming! Life transitions, career decisions, moving, infertility, pregnancy, parenting, changing body and personal identity, juggling work and family responsibilities may lead us to feeling anxious, overwhelmed, lonely, lost or stuck. The changes and challenges are non-stop and can be too much at times. Finding a therapist that can provide a caring and safe space to open up is essential to growth and healing.

I have been working with people that are negotiating changes in their lives for over 30 years. I believe that when people are at a crossroads in life, or suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, or a loss, it can feel very overwhelming. I believe it takes courage to reach out and seek support, and my goal is to create a safe space to help people open up and find ways to approach issues that are causing distress.

I believe each of us is unique. Therefore, in my practice as a licensed clinical psychologist my initial goal is to get to know you so we can, in collaboration, find the best strategies to help you live your life in the way that is most satisfying to you. As a cognitive behavior therapist, it is my goal to be the guide, along with you, to reach your goals by looking at any maladaptive habits, thoughts, or behaviors you have developed that brought you in to therapy.

Your past pain is real and it is common for that past pain to hurt in the present. You don't have to "just accept it". I have success working with clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, maternal mental health issues, family dynamic issues, and also have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and families. My clients trust that I can help them overcome whatever their challenges are. One of my passions is Prenatal Bonding and psychology, enhancing the bond between mother and child to improve birth outcomes and reduce adverse postpartum experiences.

My name is Ashley Singerman, and I’m a private practice therapist who works with people new to therapy, adults with childhood trauma, mothers, and adolescents. If you come from a background where you experienced neglect, trauma, or abuse, I hold the space where you feel supported and handheld in your experience while we move at your own pace. It might be hard for you to take the first step because you aren’t sure or are afraid to make a choice. I love ushering people into the work because I know it can be anxiety provoking. In my approach, I want you to have the tools to make your own choices, and to feel safe in the process.

Did you know that women are 2-3 times more likely to be depressed than men and the reproductive years present the most challenges? A pregnant or postpartum woman who finds herself distressed, depressed and anxious often feels alone. You may feel ashamed, alienated, inadequate and guilty. You may wonder how you could feel this bad when you love your baby. These thoughts and feelings are symptoms. They are not a definition of who you are as a person, a woman, or a mother. You are not alone, this is not your fault. With treatment, you can feel better.

I believe that well-being is a right not a privilege and that everyone is hungry for meaning, purpose and connection. The absence of these things can lead to disorder and dysfunction. The greatest gift of being a therapist is helping people of all ages let go of unhealthy coping skills and cultivate an authentic, full life. In my practice, I focus on the specific needs and goals of the individual, couple or family. Through story, intervention, tools, and feedback I help my clients address the issues that are preventing them from moving forward in their lives and ultimately to reclaim their true selves.

I work with people who struggle with excessive worrying, overthinking, and restlessness, trauma, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, as well as those who generally just want to improve their lives. I work with many college age individuals, 20 somethings, and 30 somethings, who are exploring issues around identity, relationships, and "early life crisis." I work best with clients who are wanting to grow and are willing to look inward to develop a deeper, more profound sense of self.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
