If you’re frequently anxious or overwhelmed, if there are difficult events from your life continuing to invade your life in memories or nightmares, if you’re experiencing chronic pain, if you’re feeling depressed, irritable, stuck, or alone, I can help. You may have tried everything you can think of to start feeling better and nothing seems to fully address your struggles. I’m so glad you’re here. There is hope. If you don’t believe that yet, that’s ok, I am holding it for you until you can.

I work with clients who are having difficulty enjoying their life, because of feeling depressed, or anxious, or persons who have been through trauma and keep having flashbacks that make them feel like they are experiencing the traumatic event again.
Symptoms of emotional distress, don't just come out of nowhere. As we go through life, our bodies alert us about whether to go towards something that seems safe, or away from something that seems dangerous. When there is no escape from the cause of sensations, as is the case in physical, emotional or sexual abuse, we learn learn ways avoid feeling the sensations in our body in order to protect ourselves. In order to heal, we need to be able to be in touch with our body sensations. They give us valuable information about safety. We can work together on helping you to feel safe and relaxed and to be optimistic about your future.

As an immigrant, I understand that life is a journey and as part of that we encounter countless challenges. Going through difficult times and learning to cope with them are opportunities to become wiser and more mindful. However, life challenges can be daunting and hard to overcome. I believe that therapy can help you make sense of your circumstances and cultivate insights and awareness so that you can change and grow. I work with adults 18 and older with an emphasis on mindfulness, attachment-based and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches.

Was it difficult to click on this page? Well you did it and if that is your accomplishment for the day then that is one step closer towards healing. It is my belief that healing is a series of small, humble steps leading to transformation. Pain takes many forms, headaches, chronic physical pain, the pain from loss, the pain from one's limitations after a serious diagnosis, the pain from abuse and the pain from the love that you didn't receive. These experiences teaches us some harsh lessons that keep us safe, but they can also keep us trapped.

Hi there, I'm Amanda, and I am a values guided therapist here in Seattle. I find values to be an inexhaustible source of wholesome motivation. They can shift us from a "should" mindset to a truly willing mindset. It can be wildly uncomfortable to take an honest look at our current way of living. But if we avoid our discomfort, we may also avoid living our values.

I work with clients seeking growth, integration and change in how they experience their lives, both past and present. When a painful event or memories influence how we interpret our lives, we can often find ourselves stuck in patterns of avoiding, numbing, overworking, obsessing, etc. Despite our best efforts to push through, we start getting signals that something is off and that a deeper issue could be the cause. These signals can present as any range of symptoms (ie anxiety, depression, irritability) or relational difficulties, that sometimes gently, and often times urgently, tell us that we need care.

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. Wherever you find yourself, therapy holds a compassionate space where you no longer have to bear it all alone. Together, we can slow down and give attention to the feelings and experiences that are often pushed aside to meet the demands of daily life. You might be navigating a difficult situation, grappling with anxiety and stress, adjusting to a life transition, grieving a painful loss, working through faith-based or spiritual concerns, or coping with a chronic illness. Life can be incredibly hard, and my desire is to offer kindness, hope, and support in the midst of it.

I believe in supporting my clients in their desire to find more wholeness, aliveness, acceptance, and peace within themselves. Using multiple modalities such as IFS, EMDR, AEDP, mindfulness and somatic techniques, and person-centered therapy, I will help you in navigating life transitions, doubt, grief, anxiety, overwhelm, and fear. I specialize in working with those impacted by anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, changes in roles and relationships, perinatal adjustments, and relational codependency.
Hi, I'm Kate. I provide counseling to individuals and couples in the north Seattle area. My approach to therapy begins with relationship as I believe both harm and healing happen within the context of relationships. Perhaps you are tired of feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed. Maybe you've experienced a significant loss that has shifted your roles and beliefs. You don't have to figure this out alone. My focus is to develop a trusting relationship with you and provide a safe environment where you can tell your story, feel accepted, and experience the wholeness and healing that comes out of that process.

I work with clients who want more satisfaction and meaning in life and relationships. The pain of anxiety, low mood, ADHD, addictive or compulsive behaviors, transitions, loss, trauma, or relational distress motivates them to look for change. They are curious about knowing themselves more deeply, through the heart and felt-sense experience, as well as the intellect. To grow beyond the safety of the familiar self in meaningful ways, they are willing to face some discomfort and vulnerability, and commit to useful behaviors and habits. They value this one precious life they have here, and want to make the best of it.

The relationships that we put so much work into with those that we love are often the same relationships that cause the most hurt. Feelings of disappointment, distress, hurt, anxiety, and depression are part of our life experience- but we don’t have to stay there. The choice is yours to make. I have learned through life experience that crisis events happen, problems arise, and change is really difficult, but it is so worth it!

You dream of a life that feels peaceful and exciting, challenging yet manageable, connected and secure. You know where you want to be, you’re just not sure how to get there yet. You might say “I’m sorry” more than you’d like to, feel frustrated that caring for yourself is so much harder than caring for others, or worry that you'd be a burden if you shared what you're really feeling. Maybe it's been like this for a while. One thing is sure: you’re ready for relief. You’re ready for more ease, playfulness, and joy. You’re ready to feel more connected to your loved ones. Most of all, you’re ready to look to the future with hope.

I believe that each person has the truth inside them and therapy can be a place to discover and honor that truth. I currently meet with clients through video or phone sessions.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
