I think the first thing someone seeking help needs to release is a sense of wrongness - "I let this happen," "I'm no good," "If only I had..." These are all normal, human responses, but they are also hurtful and create a false sense of self. The reason I became a counselor was to help those individuals carrying around guilt and shame. It affects everything - your relationships, your work, everything! I want everyone to thrive and live their fullest life. Being able to see yourself clearly, not for what you've done or did not do, is a powerful healing agent.

I practice CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), TF-CBT (trauma-focused CBT), ABA (applied behavioral analysis), solution-focused therapy, and structural and strategic family therapy. I love learning about neurobiology and the effects that stress has on the brain. A client can expect to encounter a warm, compassionate, and encouraging soul who has a dry sense of humor and tends to address problems in a straightforward manner.

I find it best to meet the client where he or she is at in life, and based on their strengths, help them to develop a positive attitude and reduce suffering so the client will feel empowered to focus on matters that bring them joy, meaning and fulfillment, and to move toward their personal goals. I believe that reality focused, brief solution therapy is usually the most effective approach to assist clients. A thorough psycho-social assessment is the beginning of this process.
