Sometimes life is just plain hard and we need to talk to someone who will listen and support us without judgement. We need a safe place to figure out what is going on, with someone who will listen objectively and without any agenda of their own. I would be honored to come alongside you and provide a safe place of understanding and support to help you gain the insight and growth you seek in your life and relationships. It is my desire to help you gain a stronger understanding of yourself, challenge and change old patterns, and unlock new potential.
I find it best to meet the client where he or she is at in life, and based on their strengths, help them to develop a positive attitude and reduce suffering so the client will feel empowered to focus on matters that bring them joy, meaning and fulfillment, and to move toward their personal goals. I believe that reality focused, brief solution therapy is usually the most effective approach to assist clients. A thorough psycho-social assessment is the beginning of this process.
To put it bluntly, I am here for you. I want to hear about what is hurting you and stopping you from moving forward in a happy and positive way in your life. I want your input on what the problem is and what plan will work with you personally. We will gather all our information and decide on a plan of action to get you back to where you want to be as quickly as possible and develop a way to keep you there.

I have been counseling individuals, couples, and families for over 25 years. I help couples strengthen their emotional connection, communication patterns, and parenting skills. As a military spouse myself for nearly 30 years, I've helped many military families navigate the unique challenges of military culture. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which treats the effects of traumatic or difficult life circumstances, emotional concerns, and relational issues. Life is beautiful but also challenging. At times those challenges can seem overwhelming and never ending. We all need some support along the way. Thankfully we do not have to walk that path alone. I desire to walk alongside others in whatever journey they may be on. I would love to come alongside you and take you down a road of exploration and restoration. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, self-worth, relational issues, personal growth, grief and loss, and attachment issues. I hope we can work together to bring more peace, fulfillment and beauty back into your life!

Life can feel overwhelming at times. A certain situation might throw you off, like a change or loss in relationship, employment, stage of life or health. Maybe you question who you are or who you want to be. Sometimes something unbearable happens and you can't imagine moving forward. You might be looking for a little bit of help to get through a challenge, or you may be working through struggles you've had for some time, or you may not know what you feel or want but have a sense that an advocate might help move things in a positive direction.
I look forward to helping clients reach their highest level of healing and wellbeing. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I work with children when parents and/or guardians are also willing to participate in treatment. I use a collaborative approach to discover solutions for issues such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, interpersonal conflict, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, life transitions, healing from past experiences, recovering from self-defeating behaviors, and reaching one's full potential.
The two most important factors in effective psychotherapy are finding the right person with whom you can connect and knowing that the therapy is geared to your unique needs. My 40 years of counseling have taught me therapy is most effective when we work together. Therapy is a cooperative effort. I want to identify your strengths and apply them to your problems. If you have a history of trauma, I have found the EMDR therapy is the most effective way to treat trauma and am excited to offer this therapy.
While we specialize in treating adolescent girls and women at Empower Counseling, we welcome all clients. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families who are looking for a supportive and goal directed therapist with a collaborative approach to change. My goal is to help my clients become a more confident and empowered version of themselves, build on their strengths and work through the challenges and conflicts that are an inevitable part of life.
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, LMFT, FT, PhD, CCTMH
I have over 25 years' experience working with individuals adjusting to major life transitions and grief issues, depression, and anxiety. I have particular interest in helping individuals adjust to the illness and death of a child, parent, sibling, friend, or other family member. I received my doctoral education in Family Studies which integrated counseling, sociology, and psychology in understanding and treating major life transitions and family changes. I am also interested in working with caregivers and individuals dealing with career concerns.
I enjoy working collaboratively with individuals who feel stuck in a particular place. Often these times are during a transition phase of life coupled with some grieving for a particular phase of life being left behind. I have a natural curiosity for why people do the things they do and this helps me to be inquisitive yet not judgemental regarding a person's behavior. I have a strong faith based background and will seek to use whatever spiritual strengths a person has to move them further along in the process of healing and adjusting to their new reality.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Bedford are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.
Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Bedford then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.
Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.
