LPC, LCDC: Exciting events like
family
, friends & work aspirations challenge us against our inner personal needs. These rub up against each other often fighting for the limited energies we have to spend. I believe we have to take a time out to evaluate all these things that make life exiting and often times stressful. I affirm WE ALL have the ability to recreate ourselves, but with all the information feeds we have today, it's sorting through what's valid and what's not that really shows us a great new path for change.

I started
Family
Matters Counseling Center after I realized that a
family
system is one that the client creates and is not born into. From here I developed a passion to learn each unique families story to help them overcome their obstacle in maintaining balance within their
family
system. I help clients re-ignite their passion and hope in reaching their career and personal goals. I do this in a collaborative and gentle approach as I assist you in your journey with every step.

I have over 15 years working with children and teens who have experienced trauma. I enjoy working with this population to address anxiety, depression,
family
issues, self-image issues, and trauma. I also see children or teens who have chronic medical conditions and help them adjust to the changes of their lives now that they have this condition. I use evidenced based treatments to address the issues and meet every person where they are in the treatment process. I enjoy watching the progress that is made so that the children and adolescents see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we can reach it together.

Experiencing hurdles in life such as challenging relationships,
family
life issues and concerns about the direction of your career are normal, but can leave you feeling anxious, depressed, frustrated or angry. So many of our problems come down to not having enough insight into how our minds work; what we want, what we fear, why we act the way we do, and why we are overwhelmed by certain feelings. I believe that every person who seeks counseling has their own answers to their unique situations and my job is to facilitate finding those answers.

Within every person is the innate desire to live a fulfilled life. That life is different for everyone. Listening to your story, hearing your dreams will enable us, together, to design a treatment plan specific to your life. Clients begin counseling for a number of reasons, something is not going the way you planned, causing dysfunction. Trauma and/or toxic stress can occur at any age. I work with individuals, children, adolescents and
family
systems as a whole and individually; creating a safe space to express needs allows for individual growth and restoration of the
family
system.

My typical counseling approach, and that of my colleagues at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, is anchored firmly and unapologetically in the Christian world-view. We do so with a clear, unwavering theistic paradigm that acknowledges God's sovereignty in all things, as He is intimately interested in, and responsive to, each person and all they experience. Therefore, unless otherwise directed by the client, our approach will inherently involve the use of biblical revelation and the principles found therein, when ever appropriate and applicable. The Christ centered world view is paramount to my approach to healing.

Including relationships with loved ones,
family
and just as important, the relationship with self.
Do you ever question your self-worth? Are you ever overly harsh with yourself? Do you find this impacts your relationships with loved ones? You're constantly over thinking about your relationships and wondering how to make them better. These problems leave you questioning yourself such as, am I the problem? Relationships are hard! Especially the one with ourselves. This can be caused by growing up in a highly critical environment, which leads to often battling with imposter syndrome, tending to be a perfectionist, or having a strong need for validation from others.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
