Everybody is born with the capacity to enjoy life, to feel empowered, and to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Unfortunately, certain life circumstances such as abusive and toxic relationships, family conflict, trauma, failure, and loss can prevent people from feeling hopeful, worthy, or successful. In a supportive and nurturing environment, I have dedicated my career to helping others develop the positive habits, spiritual tools, and healthy thinking needed for them to heal and succeed.

I’m committed to helping men and women learn how to get in touch with their emotions, have healthy relationships and find meaning in their life. My work focuses on trauma, existential crisis, lack of direction and focus. I believe in making sense of your life up to this point while also creating goals to become the person you want to be. If you're willing to do the hard work of healing and are committed to putting self-awareness and integration as top values, we will work well together.

Are you or your child anxious? Terrified to do something you know you should be able to handle, but just can't? Do you have a child that is not doing well in school? They may need some extra support that they are not getting from the teacher or school staff. Or do you not get along well with your child? They never seem to listen or do what you say.

Over the past six years I have worked with clients and families who are working through anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidality, and self injurious behavior.
My ideal client is someone who is willing to work with me in order to achieve their goal. This includes being able to have back and forth conversation around ways to achieve that goal, as well as have the more difficult conversations when it comes to road blocks and the occasional self sabotaging behavior. I will always be honest in my assessments, and thoughts, and my hope would be that my client is as well.

I believe therapy is based off a cooperative relationship between the therapist and client working together towards what you find important. Many events throughout the course of our lives shape and mold us; These life experiences and lessons can have a huge impact on our relationships with others and ourselves that leaves us feeling stuck or dissatisfied. I have over 8 years of experience working in clinics and community based service settings; I currently work primarily with adults with significant experience in relationship issues, career, self-esteem, trauma and abuse, stress, anxiety and depression.

As for me, I am a retired combat Veteran and mental health clinician that uses an empathetic approach with a trauma-informed lens that encourages clients to work on their therapeutic goals through a collaborative process.
It is OK to not feel OK! In fact, it makes absolute sense that you may be experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, irritability, and discontent as you try your best to navigate a world that can be chaotic to say the least! In my experience, sometimes just talking through these difficulties with a therapist can help to recalibrate our hard wiring as we work to find what is most effective for us to move forward. I applaud you in taking an enormous step in trusting the therapeutic process by saying "YES" to yourself.

In my 30+ years of experience as a therapist, clinical supervisor, researcher, educator and writer on complex trauma, I have come to believe that we are shaped as much by the good things that went missing from our lives as the bad things that happened to us. My clients have often endured severe abuse, neglect, oppression, and other forms of life adversity. They have learned to cope and survive in ways that get misunderstood and misdiagnosed, and that can cause profound stigma, shame and social rejection. Their courage and resilience inspires awe. Finding a therapist who can see and accept all parts of them is one key to recovery.

As a therapist who was born blind, I recognize that coping with discrimination negatively impacts our mental health, and that naming and challenging these outside forces in therapy can lead to self-empowerment and healing. I focus on addressing diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression with particular focus on teens, young adults, and first responders.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
