I utilize different techniques to focus on three major systems that affect our mental health: the system of the body ( trauma informed care, biofeedback, emotional mapping), the larger system of the community of origin (attachment, IFS) and the even larger system of culture and politics (how do your identities shape the way you see the world and it sees you?).
Howdy! I'm thrilled that you are starting the process of looking for a therapist! No two people are alike, so I don’t use a cookie-cutter approach to my counseling work. While I pull from multiple modes of therapy, it is common for me to use tools from mindfulness, CBT, biofeedback, IFS, Polyvagal Theory and more. My style is equitable and relational, with previous clients saying that my humorous, laid-back approach to therapy put them at ease quickly. There is no power hierarchy: I am the expert in mental health and you are the expert in your life. We need both to have a successful and productive counseling relationship!

My counseling approach centers the client through compassionate presence and I draw from a mix of humanistic orientation, multicultural counseling, career counseling, feminist theory, relational-cultural theory, Internal Family Systems, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, spirituality, creativity, mindfulness, and trauma-informed theory.
Finding the right therapist can be difficult, maybe you have asked yourself questions like “will they “get” me?”, “do they know what it’s like to feel torn in multiple directions?” Or maybe, if you are anything like me, you have asked yourself “is there something wrong with me?”, “where are the therapists that look, even vaguely, like me?” As a half-Asian, bicultural woman of color, I’m passionate about supporting others who live at the intersection of multiple identities.

I work collaboratively with individuals and couples to rebuild fragile trust and intimacy, walking purposely through resolution of personal integrity, betrayal, deception and trauma.
Finding the right therapist can be like choosing among healthcare plans or tax preparation options...a tedious necessity in trying to meet your particular needs. 17 years of professional and clinical experience has helped me refine service to men, women and couples addressing life's most complicating issues (infidelity, sexual compulsivity, PTSD, communication problems...). Based on your assessed needs, our work together will be sensible, practical and results-oriented. I believe you and your relationships can find relief, recover and even thrive in the midst of debilitating challenges.

Clients present with many concerns, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, and relationship issues to name a few. Everyone experiences emotional ups and downs, successes and failures. However, when one is stuck in the "downs" and the "failures" we may feel overwhelmed, anxious & depressed. Often one turns to unhealthy coping such as alcohol and drugs, eating, compulsive behaviors - shopping and exercising, isolation or avoidance. Untangling the unique threads of your life; and understanding how they affect you can be the beginning to feeling more in charge and living according to your values and desires.

I’m so glad you landed here. Welcome to the wonderful world of somatic therapy! I know it can feel intimidating to embark on a journey of self-improvement and self-acceptance. Luckily, I specialize in SE (Somatic Experiencing), a gentle approach to trauma-informed counseling that helps you ease into the process. It's great for beginners to therapy, as well as longtime therapy-goers who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy and want to access a new part of the work. I believe that therapy is at its best when it’s an open and inviting process, and one of my favorite aspects of SE is its collaborative nature.

In my practice I utilize a person-centered therapeutic approach while also incorporating CBT or a trauma focused structure, in order to connect with a range of people and mental health needs.
I believe in providing a safe environment and building a strong and great relationship with all clients. Through my experience as a professional counselor, I have gained a strong understanding of anxiety, depression, PTSD, dissociation, and trauma related to mental health. Previously, I was working in a university mental health clinic, as well as for a non- profit organization that helps individuals relating to trauma and PTSD. Most of my experience has focused on working with adults ranging in age from 18-65, but I welcome all age ranges into counseling.

I have experience in supporting individuals with a variety of mental health challenges including substance use, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and PTSD.
Life is full of ups and downs. A big transition, the death of a loved one, or a traumatic event can show up as anxiety, depression, addiction, or even physical pain. These feelings don’t have to linger. With evidence-based therapies, such as EMDR, I can help you overcome traumatic events or simply unhealthy (and often untrue) ways of thinking of yourself and emerge as the “new” you with the clarity, confidence, and joy needed to live the life you deserve.

Do you find yourself in constant overwhelm, fighting with your partner, or feeling alone and confused? Whether it's every day stress, a traumatic experience, or feeling disconnected; I'm here to tell you there's hope. In therapy I aim to address the underlying issues related to current life difficulties, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
