I work from a relational, trauma-informed, somatic lens to create lasting change.
Life and relationships sometimes offer inaccurate messages about who we are, what we deserve, and what is available to us. Where you have felt invalidated, shamed, limited, or unsafe, I want to help you rewrite your story. I am passionate about connection, communication, mind-body-soul healing, and guiding others into their light. I support individuals and couples in identifying patterns such as over-functioning, perfectionism, people-pleasing, shutting down, withdrawing, or focusing on tasks. As we explore the roots of these strategies, we can find new ways to relate, meet needs, build self-worth, and heal old hurts.

I offer consultation services to other practitioners looking to implement somatic practices into their work, strengthen their understanding of trauma and sharpen their EMDR skills.
As a counselor, I believe my role is to help others tap into their own innate and powerful ability to heal. I support my clients in cultivating awareness around the connection between their bodies and minds. This leads to a deeper understanding of ourselves, how we relate to others and how and cope with daily life.

Clients grow and change through the combination of EMDR psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Imago therapy and Sex Therapy.
People come to see me to enhance life. Things are going ok however self care needs improvement. They are having difficulty in relationships with themselves and others, reacting instead of responding. They are willing to examine and work to improve physical, emotional, sexual, social, spiritual and intellectual aspects of life, hoping to improve self and co regulation. Often they are aware of past or current trauma interfering with their capacity to attach, establish new ways/patterns of living life to enhance the future. In practice at my current location since 1990.

I help my clients identify and re-frame the negative beliefs and thoughts that developed unconsciously throughout their lives using EMDR, somatic approaches and mindfulness.
Every one of us has faced adversity that has changed how we think about ourselves and how we interact with the world. Those events can shatter our sense of self and safety, but it is possible to reach post-traumatic growth and a more centered, grounded state of being. Post-traumatic growth does not mean that we ignore the trauma or downplay its impact, but it can enable us to forge a deeper connection to others and gain a greater appreciation for life. I sincerely believe it isn’t what is wrong with you but what happened to you.

Among these are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Somatic Experiencing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
As a therapist, I have been awed by the diversity of experiences and strengths of those I have had the privilege to work with. We all go through difficult times in our lives in which we find ourselves stuck and unhappy. There is no shame in reaching out for help. In fact, it is a very courageous thing to do. In my private practice, I work with individuals who may have experienced trauma or feel anxious and depressed but don't know why. I also have extensive experience working in the field of addictions/recovery.

In session, we will use principles from Transpersonal Psychology, meditation + mindfulness, somatic practices, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I am a holistic trauma-informed therapist, and I work to help you move from overwhelm and anxiety to navigating life with confidence, ease, and joy. My areas of focus include: anxiety, trauma, ADHD, OCD, and addiction. I help you see your innate wisdom so that you can create goals, remember dreams, and find a deep, abiding sense of contentment within yourself. Many clients I work with were told they were "too sensitive" or "overdramatic" as a child. I am skilled at guiding you reconnect with younger parts of yourself and shift unhelpful core beliefs. I am licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

I am a certified yoga instructor as well and in training for Somatic Experiencing.
As of 07/2024 I am accepting new clients. I recognize a very strong connection between body and mind. Primarily, I utilize techniques to help you gain awareness into your inner landscape of physical sensations, how these are connected to your emotions, and combine movement with talk therapy. We work with different somatic based tools to build capacity in managing different stressors and releasing past "stuck" experiences. Using what we learn from our body can often help us in navigating anxiety, depression, stress, difficult emotions, situations, life transitions and trauma stored in the body.

I am interested in therapies that honor and integrate the body, including somatic, internal family systems, and polyvagal.
Whether you are a child, teenager, or adult of any age, struggling with anxiety, sadness, grief, or trauma, whatever it is that brings you here, welcome. When we reach a crossroads or struggle to move forward, therapy can broaden our perspectives and offer new insights. As we take what we learn in therapy and apply it in our lives, we can begin to feel different: lighter, richer, fuller. It can feel like we are opening a window to allow more oxygen and light to enter.

Is your past preventing you from experiencing a joyful and fulfilling life? Have you tried talk therapy and found that words aren't enough to change how you feel or that trying to change your thinking has not brought you the healing you seek? It could be that trauma is keeping you stuck. I specialize in treating adults who feel held back and weighed down by trauma, helping them to resolve traumatic experiences that are often at the root of depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders.

As loss is deeply felt in the body we offer somatic therapy and bodywork to hold you through the process.
We are wired for love and meaning. When we lose the people/things we care about, it is deeply felt in our body, mind, and spirit. Loss can disorient, disorganize, and disrupt our identity, place in the world, and sense of security. Grieving a loss (passing of a loved one, a relationship ending, or change in life circumstances such as career, health, orlocation) is a sacred process of honoring the very important role, needs, and purpose the person or important thing offered you. Grief represents a fundamental dilemma, how to love and live with an open heart and survive the inevitable endings, transitions, and losses that life brings.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
