I use humor and compassion to help teens tap into their own strengths so they can be more confident, get better sleep, worry less and reconnect with family and friends.
Is your teen experiencing hurt or confusion and you feel powerless as to how to help them? Do you feel disconnected from them and worry they don’t have an outlet for their pain? Is your daughter struggling with feelings of sadness and low self-esteem? Does she have trouble with nightmares, disturbed sleep, and excessive worry? Is your son in his room all the time, irritable and withdrawn? Are you worried he is using substances to manage his emotions? Being an adolescent is so tough and social media has made it even harder. I can help them understand their emotions and navigate through the stress of being a teenager.

Things may seem fine on the surface, but you've been feeling anxious for a while. Sleepless nights and constant distractions leave you drained, and your mind won't shut off, leading to poor sleep. You may be impulsive, easily distracted, sensitive, or irritable, affecting your relationships. Turning to substances hasn't helped, and low self-esteem makes it hard to believe in yourself. You’ve tried to get back to the gym, eat healthier, and sleep better, but something always gets in the way. If you're dealing with ADHD, trauma, or confusion about what's going on, I'm here to help you navigate through it.

Stressed? Burned out? Can't sleep? It's time to get our of your head and back into your body! I use a holistic, mind-body-spirit focused approach to my therapy and health coaching. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help you create new pathways for growth, meaning, self-compassion and a better understanding of your life experience. I believe we all possess the strength to overcome life's challenges, but often we need extra guidance, support and new "tools" to get to a more fulfilling place.

As of September 2024, my practice has limited openings. Life is sometimes stressful, confusing, and painful, presenting us with unique challenges to overcome. I help clients with clinical and practical interventions to work on goals such as regaining confidence, getting unstuck, improving daily functioning, stopping drinking, and improving relationships. According to Jon Kabat -Zinn, a mindfulness-based stress expert, "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." I believe in embracing and practicing acceptance of pain, which can lead to a decrease in human suffering.

We grow in relationship with ourselves and each other. How do we connect with people and build a unique, full life? How do we "keep our cool", deflecting media hype, when abrupt decisions disrupt our "in the spot light" careers? How do we achieve our life's highest meaning, and our relational, personal, social and professional satisfaction? Including the sports, medical and mental health professions, I provide consultation and counseling for highly visible, local and national government leaders. My culture and faith friendly, overall wellness, systems supportive, preventive and restorative emphasis is available to individuals, couples, families, groups & supervisees.

Note: all sessions are online. Welcome, and thank you for taking the first steps towards healing. I chose this line of work to provide others with the skills they need for walking their life path with their heads held high and love in their hearts. At some point we are all given difficult, transformative opportunities. I would be grateful to assist in honoring life's painful experiences and integrating them as they transform you into something greater. As a yoga teacher, therapist, and spiritual seeker who specializes in working with women I use healing modalities that shift the mind, body, and soul.

Therapy is a safe place to explore challenges in our lives & find strengths that we never knew we had. It has the potential to lift us out of our rut so that we can finally make the changes we've longed for. Whether you are working to decrease your anxiety, unmasking and living authentically, changing careers, exploring your gender or sexual identity, or trying to change your relationships, therapy can be a great place to get a fresh perspective & face these challenges with a champion by your side. My own identity as a multiracial, queer, gender nonconforming therapist enables me to understand clients who feel like outsiders.

I specialize in helping adults who have not been helped by past treatment, who have problems feeling connected, or who have long-standing struggles with trauma, depression, anxiety, or relationships. Currently I have openings for Group Therapy (not for individual or couples). I am happy to refer you to trusted colleagues if you would like to chat about that. All our therapists track how effective we are - and we publish our results. That's what makes The Colorado Center for Clinical Excellence different. I invite you to read about my approach, results, fees, articles, and resources at thecoloradocenter.com.

I find therapy most potent, important, and meaningful when there is a mix of: compassion/spaciousness (non-judgment); curiosity/levity (as appropriate); & choicefulness. From my background in Somatic Counseling/Body Psychotherapy, I make use of my own body, and body-based (a.k.a. somatic) tracking, applied moment-to-moment in the room with clients. Sometimes this is as simple as noticing the breath, or bringing attention (and other options) to bear when something shifts. There are also many extensive toolboxes of potential somatic interventions that expand the range, and the richness, of what a session together may include.

I work with tweens, teens, adults and couples seeking to manage anxiety, improve daily coping skills at school, work or college and/or a desire to discuss stressors affecting them. Clients may be self referred or referred by their medical providers or friends. My experience includes assessment for depression, ADHD, anxiety and other untreated mental health difficulties. Due to the mind-body connection, I firmly believe that getting mental health care is equally as important as physical health care. By decreasing stigma and increasing access, so many more people could benefit from mental health support.

Waitlist for new clients
I believe each of us has a unique inner light. However, some experiences we walk through over the course of our lives can progressively dull that light until we struggle finding our joy. I work with clients to identify and understand how past events in their lives may be influencing their current distress levels and to learn new ways of thinking and feeling about these events, accepting with love and integrating these new beliefs for a more body/mind experience.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
