While facing life transitions, coping with loss, exploring the past, preparing for the future, or navigating a host of mental, emotional, and physical human experiences, my clients seek therapy to safely establish healthy patterns, thoughts, and change. Clients tell me our work creates a healing relationship that fosters long term change as well as resolve of past traumas and conflicts "instead of a band-aid approach." We'll collaborate and create a tailored approach to meet your needs. I am welcoming to communities of color. You will receive empowering, holistic psychotherapy whether trans/cis, queer, heterosexual, or LGBTQI2PA.

Welcome! I'm a remote therapist based in Western Mass and seeing clients in MA and NY. I love connecting deeply with my clients and understanding their life stories, past experiences, relationships, and identities. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your own story. I imagine you in the driver's seat and me in the passenger seat, with you every step of the way, holding the map and offering guidance and support, but understanding that the real growth comes from you.

As a therapist with a PhD in Counseling Psychology, I dive deeply into a wide range of concerns including but not limited to sexual and relationship concerns, grief, trauma, anxiety, body image and existential dreads. Though the topics people come to therapy with are diverse and unique, there is an underlying thread that ties them all together: we are all human, seeking to be understood and cared for. I create a compassionate, non-judgmental therapeutic space where people feel they can be their full messy, human selves. Together, we can explore your inner world and work towards finding peace and purpose in your journey.

Are you someone who, due to choice or circumstance, is living life outside the mainstream? Are you an "outsider" in relation to social norms, feeling like you don't fit in or are committed to values or self-expression that make life in the larger world challenging? Perhaps you have been wary of therapy & of therapists judging you because of gender identity or presentation, because of your interest in kink or other forms of sexual expression, or because of your involvement in polyamory or other non-traditional relationship styles. If so, you need look no further to find an open-minded & respectful therapist.

Do you find yourself struggling to overcome thoughts and behaviors that are doing more harm than good? Do you find yourself saying that logically you know what to do, but you just can't do it? Sometimes when we want to change, it is not enough to simply know what we should do. Often we need to go deeper and help our brains process experiences successfully in order to step away from maladaptive beliefs and behaviors. Utilizing EMDR and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, I help clients who struggle with persistent negative beliefs and behaviors including low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and attachment wounds.

Every one of us is capable of deeply shifting our experience to ultimately live the life we most want. While life events can take us off track, the way we meet those unfolding moments creates our path. Too often we harden, and as we armor ourselves we become cut off from our own extraordinary inner healing capacities. Habitual thoughts and behaviors manifest in response to painful and difficult experiences, clouding our ability to truly see without constraint. We all have the ability to cut through those clouds, to feel more awake and alive, and to become the best version of ourselves.

Life is hard and life can be beautiful. Your symptoms perfectly reflect your distress. Gentleness, curiosity and developing awareness create a foundation for healing. Life need not be situations and feelings that keep repeating. I work to create positive ways of relating to yourself and others. Real change is possible with respect, courage and an open heart. I am not a managed care therapist - my commitment is to lasting change. I work with heterosexual, non-binary and LGBTQA+ individuals and couples. I also specialize in working with end of life, grief and loss, autism and deaf and hard of hearing issues.

I realize searching for a therapist can be a daunting process; whether you know the specific issue you want to work on or you’re simply unsure, but you just “know” (or have been told) you could use a skilled therapist. I bring to this work my experience, my knowledge, my empathy and humor. I will ask you to walk this journey with me as we explore the paths to growth.

Life presents us with many opportunities through crisis, life transitions, or spiritual questioning to search for answers about ourselves and the world. I believe that through self understanding and gaining tools to cope with daily stressors, the impact of racism, classism and other "isms," as well as historical trauma, we can turn crisis into opportunities for growth, improved self esteem and improved functioning. I also work on strengthening romantic partnerships, family relationships, and friendships. I direct treatment toward individual needs and interests, utilizing CBT as well as psychodynamic, and creative therapies.

At "Circle Forward" I welcome adults from diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, identities & belief systems. I am skilled at supporting people who have been overwhelmed and struggle with "trauma" - unresolved, survival responses (fight, flight, appease & shut down). These natural defensives are essential for dealing with threat. Protective impulses from the past can get stuck & intrude on relationships and on physical, emotional & spiritual rhythms of day-to-day life. I support you to feel safe & allow incomplete survival responses to move slowly & integrate fully. I work online and in Greenfield, MA.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
