As a therapist, I believe that a person is more than just the sum of their experiences. Each one of us is made up of our unique thoughts, emotions and ideas. I have devoted my career to finding ways of honoring who you are, as well as who you want to become. My clients range from children to adults, and my special interests are with teens, parents and families. I am clinically trained to help individuals and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, impulsivity, conflicts and grief. My style is direct, non-judgmental and supportive, as we work together to create a treatment plan that uniquely fits your needs.

Your lived experience is complex and beautiful. When life upends what once felt stable, you might question how to move forward. Through the lenses of attachment theory and mind-body connection, I help clients understand the "why" of their symptoms and the validity of their experience. Together, we find a way forward that feels authentic, life-giving, and even more beautiful than before. I hold safe, collaborative and affirming space for all.

Doing my own personal work in therapy is what led me to become a therapist. I believe strongly in paying it forward, and I would like to be there for you to normalize the process of participating in mental health counseling. You don’t need to suffer in silence. Unconditional positive regard and validation can be uplifting to those who are struggling. I believe that people have the ability to grow and change into who they want to become. As your therapist, my goal is to help you live the best life you can.

Usually when someone asks me why they should go to therapy, I ask them if they think they could benefit from having a non-judgmental third party whose only motive in therapy is to help them get what they want in life. Having someone who can help identify the obstacles and then walk beside you to find healing and the solutions to the presenting struggles can be life changing. I want to be that person for you. The safe soul Sherpa. To be for you at times a guide, to be someone you can feel safe with, to feel safe enough to feel and heal, to be someone to challenge you to grow and find the light that is always shining within you.

No one should move through life, silently experiencing emotional distress with little to no sense of hope, yet so many individuals do. Whether it be a result of biology and/or experience, a person’s thoughts and emotions can greatly shape their reality- leaving them to struggle to see the light at the end of the tunnel. By reconnecting with their values and seeing one's purpose in life, a person can begin to break free from the hold that uncomfortable thoughts and emotions can have on them. While involvement in therapy entails a great deal of vulnerability, it can also be an important step toward desired growth.

You’re here and you're looking for a space where you can be heard without judgement. You say everything is “fine”, but you know on some level it’s not. Maybe things have been overwhelming or big events have shaken up your life. You’re looking for a space where you’ll feel comfortable and safe so that you can be free to express yourself. Maybe you’re not even sure how to do that. You just know that you need something different. Therapy can help you discover how to express yourself and move your life in the direction that you want it to go.

Sometimes the things we experience don’t come with words to express them. I use an integrative trauma-informed body-aware approach to help clients listen to the stories that their bodies, emotions, and experiences are trying to tell them. I provide a compassionate, supportive atmosphere to allow your inner experiences to be witnessed and processed in a welcoming and non-judgmental space. I often incorporate grounding exercises, mindfulness, coping skills, and integration of both EMDR and art therapy when working with individuals to connect deeply within themselves to provide safety and empower them to transform their lives.

Life is hard, especially when we do it alone. Let's do it together. My goal is to help you reach your goals, by facing your issues head on and with courage. While I am bold, I am equally gentle and strive to empower you to achieve hard things. My philosophy is if we don't take control of our issues, they may take control of us. I find great importance in walking alongside you in compassion and support while giving you a safe space to work toward the change you desire, so you can be the best version of yourself. You can do hard things and you don't have to do it alone!

I am unfortunately not taking new clients at this time*** I strongly believe that whether someone is simply going through some uncomfortable stress, or enduring a very painful transition in life, together we can find answers that will renew hope and help you feel empowered to change your life. I practice Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and recognize that the patient is the expert in their own life. I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families to find unique solutions to complex problems. I believe focusing on patient strengths, not weaknesses, elicits hope and leaves room for meaningful and long lasting change.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
