On vacation 6/22-7/5. Come learn how to overcome depression, anxiety, and low self-worth/Self-esteem. My patients often tell me they can't remember the last time they were happy. Let's change that. I maintain a certificate in trauma and focus on mindfulness and learning how our thoughts can lead to negative emotions and how to change them. You deserve to be happy. Let's make the the time and space to talk about you and your issues and concerns, your desires, hopes and dreams. This is your time to put yourself first for a change. It is possible to feel good about yourself.

Therapy isn't mysterious. It's a conversation that helps you create clarity about your feelings, what you really need or want, and how to get there. My photo shows me years ago enjoying a hike in Yellowstone. I also enjoy my clients. It is refreshing to provide a comfortable place for you to express your true feelings, to problem-solve and clarify your thinking. It is OK to seek help. Emotional overload happens to everyone. Your problem doesn't define your value. Imagine newborn babies. They are all equal and valuable. Self-limiting beliefs are "learned" later. It is an essential understanding that your true self is perfect.

Change is difficult and uncomfortable and things can become even harder when those around you don’t understand. You’re stuck in this cycle of addiction or negative thinking and sometimes it feels as though you will never get out of this pattern. You go around and around, you follow the steps, you read the books but it’s just not working and no one understands why that is. You’re thinking “maybe I’m just not cut out for this? Maybe I need this? I’m just broken.” But MAYBE you just haven’t found a solution that works for your needs. Let's find a solution that works for YOU.

We are all born with good intentions and infinite possibilities, but sometimes life knocks us off our path. Our past experiences may have shaped who we are today, including what our relationships look like with ourselves and others, but despite whatever tragic events that have occurred during our life, we are driven towards resiliency. But this is where we can get stuck: what we used to do, what we've always done, isn't working anymore; we need to find another way. When we allow ourselves to feel connected to others and focus on our strengths, rather than weaknesses, we are able to heal.

We all have a story to share. Sometimes, the loneliest seasons of our lives happen when we don’t feel safe to share our experiences. Stories have a way of organizing our thoughts, helping us find meaning and purpose, and establishing our identity in a confusing and sometimes chaotic world. Oftentimes, it is easy to subscribe to one narrative which may limit how we view ourselves. I believe there are many potential storylines in each of our lives. My goal is to help you find the one that makes you feel stronger, braver, and capable of facing life’s challenges.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
