We all face difficult challenges or situations that affect our way of life, who we are, and our social/family environments resulting in hurt, pain, depression, anxiety, feeling of grief/loss, and need to be validated and accepted. No one should go through these challenges alone as I meet you where you are in life's travels and assist you in navigating these difficulties with my years of experience and education. My practice includes individuals (children, adolescents, and adults), couples, and families. If you are looking for a supportive, non-judgmental counselor, give me a call.

Life transitions and stressors cause us to re-examine our present sense of being. Overwhelming emotions, thoughts, and feelings can get the best of us. We get lost in our thoughts, creating feelings of resentment, anxiety, depression, and overall defeat. This cyclic thought process impacts the quality of our lives and overflows into other meaningful relationships we care about, such as our spouses, friends, family, co-workers, and children. My role in this therapeutic relationship is to help you reach your true potential by discovering a sense of acceptance, contentment, and freedom from issues that have previously kept you stagnant

It is my goal that I provide services that will empower you and your family to cope and overcome life adversities, so you can "learn to DANCE in the rain.
An author by the name of Vivian Greene quoted, "Life is not about waiting for the STORM to pass, it's about learning to DANCE in the rain." The presence of adversities (STORMS) sometimes come to us by surprise or develops over a significant time. For me as a Licensed Mental Health Professional, I identify my therapeutic and counseling services as a tool used to help Individuals and Families navigate through life STORMS.

My passion is to help those that live with lifelong disabilities and present complex and/or substantial behavioral issues, which can include problems relating to noncompliance, tantrums/meltdowns, physical aggression, self-injury, destructive behavior, elopement, feeding problems, toileting, and school-related behavioral difficulties. Those seeking services are often frustrated or overwhelmed with these behaviors, as they can pose a risk to the individual or others, interfere with the individual's ability to function in typical environments, and/or interfere with the acquisition of skills or independence.

I place no limits on clients' presenting challenges. I see several clients from minors to adults who are struggling with depression, substance use disorders, and anxiety. Also, I see a number of clients who are struggling with complicated grief or OCD or ADHD. All of my client's goals include developing coping skills to achieve better living conditions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
