People pleasing and perfectionist tendencies leaves us drained, resentful, and disconnected from who we are at the core. You may be fed up with the pressures and expectations of doing “all of the things”, feeling stretched too thin or wish you had the inner strength to make yourself a priority. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to commit to the change. You’re ready to kick self doubt to the curb. Most of all, you’re ready to embark on a journey towards peace and purpose.

Are you struggling with a transition or other difficult situation? Are you having trouble knowing what you want to do next? Life transitions, however unanticipated or unwelcome, provide you with opportunities to examine the choices you've made so far and to create a more satisfying future. Unpleasant emotions (such as anger, sadness, or anxiety) can also provide you an opportunity to reconsider your beliefs and behaviors. Counseling can be the ideal place for you to sort out what you are feeling and want. However, it is vitally important that you find a counselor you like and trust in order to make change possible.

Symptoms of depression, anxiety or trauma can feel like they define you. Maybe you've tried therapy in the past without making much progress. Or maybe you are a new mom who feels like you are "going crazy" and are worried you will never feel like yourself again. I specialize in supporting pregnant and postpartum women along their unique journey. I know what it's like to feel stuck and unsure that you can get better. It is a courageous act to seek out healing in the form of psychotherapy and allow someone to witness the journey. I honor whatever brought you to the place of looking for a therapist that will fit your needs, and I welcome the parts of you that may feel unsure of the process or resistant. As a trauma therapist, my focus is understanding the body and mind and how they act on our behalf to navigate relationships and the world. Trauma work is about finding more flexibility and ease in that process. My goal with clients is to build a trusting relationship in an environment where exploring these dynamics feels accessible.

Being human is hard. Not only can it be hard but for many individuals being seen, heard and understood are missing from their life experience. I know what it is like to feel overwhelmed, stuck, frustrated, confused, to live in unresolved trauma and how this existence can impact mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. I choose counseling as a way to serve others because I have experienced my own chronic and complex trauma. I provide gentle guidance to individuals actively living in their trauma, experiencing daily anxiety, cPTSD, mood disorders, and neurodivergent humans wanting to heal from ableism. There is hope.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
