The journey of life is a complex and challenging one to navigate. We are not given a roadmap to help us find our way. And there are times when having someone journey alongside us, as we examine ourselves and aspects of our life, is of great benefit. I imagine that is what you are seeking and applaud you on taking this brave first step. My belief is that you are closer to navigating the complexity of YOU than you may think. It might be challenging to see in the moment due to challenges or symptoms you may be experiencing. You already possess everything you need to heal from the past and navigate the present.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have specialized expertise in anxiety and family systems. My clinical work is grounded in evidenced-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure with Response Prevention, Parent Management Training, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). During care, I give ample attention to the family system as I have found understanding the context in which one lives provides insight for how to optimize symptom reduction and enhance overall functioning.

Sometimes your experiences didn't prepare you for the reality of adulthood, sharing life with a partner or struggling to maintain you own identity as you became a parent.
Do you feel like you've hit a wall? You're spinning in circles? You keep reliving past experiences? Or perhaps you and your partner are having the same fights repeatedly with no resolution. Maybe you're a parent floating along in a sea of chaos that you can't ever seem to bring order to. Feeling alone, lost, or ashamed that you 'can't handle this' or you 'should know what to do' - everyone else seems to be doing just fine. There is no Life Manual, no Relationship Guide, no Parenting Handbook given at birth to navigate your life.

Parenting can be difficult at times, but you do not have to walk this path alone.
Is your child verbally and physically aggressive that it is impossible to go out to even a store or you dread their teachers reporting their "behaviors" at school? Are you worried that your child is too shy to engage in positive friendship and activities? Parenting can be very challenging at times, and I am here to listen, understand, and create treatment plan that are unique and meaningful for your child and your family. I believe (& witnessed!) children thrive despite trauma and life challenges with consistent supportive caregiving!!!

We often find ourselves stuck in place, not quite sure how we got there or what we need to do next. Our sense of self suffers, our relationships aren't where we want them to be, we don't feel successful. We long for someone to lead us in the right direction, to sit next to us and hold our hand, and to give us the tools we need to move past the hurt and pain. This is where I come in, your personal confidant and guide through life’s sticky patches. Let’s work together to help you become the person, partner, friend, child or parent you’ve always wanted to be.

Parenting... one of the greatest joys but also one of the hardest jobs. It doesn’t always seem like a joy and some days you’re left feeling stuck, not sure what to do. You want to raise your kids right but you wonder if you are. You feel like you have nothing left in the tank and feel lost on what to do next. You’ve tried everything! Many parents share these feelings and frustrations at some point through their children’s lives. If this is you, you are not alone!

Living in a neurotypical world with a neurodivergent brain is hard. It feels like pushing a boulder up a hill - only it doesn't matter how far up the hill you get, you always end up back at the bottom, watching other people push their boulders up, seemingly with ease. Parenting while neurodivergent or parenting a neurodivergent child can feel the same way. It's important to know that you aren't alone and there isn't something wrong with you.

I specialize in anxiety and depression, relationship and parenting stress, alcohol and substance use concerns, body image issues, and spirituality.
Hi, I’m Julie. For as long as I can remember, I have been introspective, questioning everything, and wanting to get to the bottom of things. This curiosity lead me to wonder about human relationships - why we do what we do, who (and how) we become who we are. I set about on a psycho-spiritual journey at a young age that eventually led me to become a therapist myself.

If you’ve felt depleted and overwhelmed, or have compared your parenting to other parents, help is available.
In my practice I support children, 5-11 yrs old, for a variety of reasons including anxiety, peer relationships, school issues, emotional regulation, neurodiversity, divorce/family change, parent-child dynamics, grief/loss and adoption. My goal is for children to learn skills and recognize their own strengths to help them navigate challenges and their daily lives with more comfort and ease. In addition to my formal training, I have learned so much from the hundreds of children that I've had the privilege of working with during my 30+ years as a therapist, school social worker and counselor.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
