Life can bring about many obstacles - whether stressors or a medical condition - and a therapist can facilitate change or healing. Through psychotherapy, we can journey towards growth and peace, to improve your adjustment to an illness or stressor, anxiety, depression, trauma, or a spiritual crisis. If you have cognitive difficulties, we can develop cognitive rehabilitation and executive skills to strengthen your mental abilities to engage in home and work. At times, neurological injury brings behavioral changes. We can jointly develop a behavioral plan to manage behaviors to improve relationships and ensure safety.

It can be scary to reach out and make that first call; but, I will try to reduce those fears. My experience is diverse; but specialized in particular areas. I have extensive work in child welfare and working with physically and sexually abused children and their families, inpatient psychiatric units at Crisis Center and Geriatric Unit, been in private practice for over 20 years, and started working with Transgender persons 24 years ago as part of treatment team. Life does not always provide us what we need unless we search for it. Strike a balance between acceptance and change while learning more effective ways of coping! It all begins with a therapeutic relationship built on mutual trust and respect. Learning to solve problems, turn negative beliefs into confidence, and improving relationships is a challenging but rewarding goal that I would be honored to walk through with you. Healing the wounds of trauma in a safe, supportive environment is within your reach in my practice.

My ideal client is ready to do the hard work of making real change in their life. Sometimes, people think change has to be big to start therapeutic services; it doesn’t. Sometimes, learning to breathe, decrease anxiety, and be more mindful of your strengths can become a great asset. Therapy doesn’t have to be forever; sometimes, you just need help getting through the now. I help individuals & families dealing with chronic illnesses and end of life. At times like those, crises often happen: medical conflict, spiritual conflict, familial conflict, financial concerns, housing and food insecurity.

My focus is to help those with Anxiety to move beyond overwhelming patterns of negative thinking that can lead to Depression. If you have trauma and deal with conflict with family, coworkers or others, we will explore ways to help to reduce the symptoms that cause discomfort and emotional pain and allow for more balance. I have experience working at Community Counseling Centers, Hospital Medical Social Work, County Mental Health Crisis and In-Patient psychiatric hospitals. From these positions I chose to return to private practice therapy in order to focus and work in-depth with adults, families, couples, seniors and groups.

Alzheimer's Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
