Whether you are suffering from an addiction, negative emotions and/or behaviors, or if you are simply looking to improve mental health wellness, therapy sessions will be designed to meet your needs.

Drawing from ACT, narrative, and solution-focused therapy, I support insight, empowerment, and meaningful change while helping you feel seen and understood.
Life can feel overwhelming and isolating, especially when anxiety, depression, ADHD, or a late autism diagnosis are part of your daily experience. When your mind feels loud or your energy feels stuck, it can be hard to see your strengths or know where to begin. You don’t have to face this alone. In a supportive, non-judgmental space, we’ll explore your values, clarify your goals, and build the skills and resilience to move forward. I work with adolescents and adults, with a focus on anxiety, depression, ADHD, and late-diagnosed autism.

Using ACT, CBT, and mindful, holistic approaches, I help you understand what’s happening in your body and build practical strategies that bring real, lasting relief.
Do you feel like your mind never quiets down? You’re constantly replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions, or chasing impossible standards. Anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt have made it harder to feel calm, present, and connected—whether you're in class, at work, spending time with the people you care about or managing holiday stress. You’ve probably tried tips and tricks to manage the overwhelm, but they only go so far. You're ready for something deeper. You want to understand where this anxiety comes from—and how to finally shift it. Therapy at Cedar Rose Counseling can help you find lasting calm and clarity.

Hello, my name is Lauren Freeman. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with almost five years of experience working in the mental health field. It is my passion to work with Black women, femmes, and girls in healing from their trauma, reclaiming their wholeness, and finding peace, rest, and joy in a world that is committed to silence and erasing our experiences. Are you someone who is struggling with anxiety or depression? A person who is trying to juggle all of their roles and being spread thin? A trauma survivor learning to thrive? Perhaps someone trying to navigate their intersectionality of race, gender, age, or sexuality?

I do utilize CBT, but also actively incorporate acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
I enjoy helping those who are ready and even hesitant to start therapy. Our time is a safe place for you to process your anxiety, trauma, depression, and thoughts. Accepting our feelings and facing them is difficult. Having an outside person to go to that is unbiased, non-judgmental, and has different perspective, can make even a small change. I want to help you, help yourself, become the person that you want to be. I've had clients tell me that they feel comfortable because I come into session as a person, not a robot.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
